Oprah takes out big guns for Obama
WASHINGTON (CNN) – Her name has been known to skyrocket a novel to the top of the bestseller list, but can Oprah Winfrey do the same with a presidential candidate?

The popular talk show host, who first said she would support Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential bid in September on CNN’s Larry King Live, plans to host a $2,300 per-person fundraising event for the Illinois Democrat in her Montecito, California home next September.

In an e-mail sent out Tuesday, the event is being billed “the most exciting Barack Obama event of the year anywhere,” the Los Angeles Times reports.

According to the Times, those celebrities who pledge to raise $25,000 for the senator will be invited to a special VIP reception and a $50,000 pledge will win a dinner with Oprah and the candidate.

Last May, Oprah told Larry King she chose to support a candidate for the first time this cycle because she knows Obama “personally,” and knows “what he stands for.

2. Yes, well she also
had the Gropenator on along with his anorexic wife for an entire hour during the recall election. She did NOT give equal time to Grey Davis.

Screw her. She's long ago forgotten where she came from.

4. Nobody's perfect..not even
Oprah. If she chooses to support a candidate this time around and Obama gets the benefit..good for them.

5. C'mon people, quit hatin' on Oprah.
She is an american citizen who votes and she can support any candidate that she wants. The only difference than many people, is that she is extremely visible, has a large platform, who is willing to use it to raise funds for her choice of candidate, no different that any other citizen, private or public entity/corporation that does the same exact thing for their choice of candidate. She has the right, just like you and me, to do that. If she only raises her minimum $2300 or 10 million dollars, why feel self righteous in criticizing her. As she stated, she has not felt this way about a candidate in the past, she supports his agenda and it feels right to her supporting Obama. No different that how many citizens analyze their support. It may also be somewhat personal for her. So what? Many people base choices on that premise, so good for her. Just remember, it's her money, her time, her venue and she can do anything that she wants with it, just the same as you and me.
