How can I convince my Republican Congressman to support impeachment?

I am going to write to my republican representative and ask him to support impeachment.

I know the basic points but I'm not a very strong writer and also want to be sure to sound reasonable and not partisan.


Do any of you have suggestions as to what I might write that could possibly have some influence on him?

They have reduced him and his colleagues to a rubber stamp. If he's not pushing them to pass
legislation he likes he's nullifying all their bills with signing statements. So with that in
mind, can Congressional pay cuts be far behind?

Because he'll be representing "all" of his constituents by representing impeachment. Otherwise, he's only representing the Republicans and thus he's not putting America first.

Or something.

are allowed to go unpunished for riding roughshod over the will of Congress, there will be nothing Congress can do to stop future Democratic presidents from doing the same thing.

So, probably the only way that the Republican will support it is if you convince the politician that impeachment will help the Republican Party in 2008+.

No Republican is going to want to go into the next election regarded as a traitor by his party faithful.

All the people who care about impeachment are going to vote Democrat anyhow, so Republicans have nothing to gain and everything to lose by supporting it, which is why they're not going to do so and calling for it is, frankly a completely empty gesture that will waste everyone's time and achieve nothing except to help the Republicans win in 08.

The Constitution is our bedrock, our guiding star. Ask him if he wants to be on the right side of history or the wrong side. Tell him to analyze the matter without thinking of names or party affiliation. What would be the right thing to do?

Ask him what kind of model he wants America to project to the world? Torture? Eavesdropping? No habeas corpus? A castrated powerless Legislature? If he does not stand up for the Legislature and the Constitution, he has no right to sit in Congress.

Republicans need to pay a price for "protecting Bush from impeachment." Right now, our own leaders are suppressing the threats to impeach Bush rather than channeling them.

I'm pushing pretty hard to get the CM's staff to hold a legitimate a town hall meeting instead of the stupid phone meetings he thinks constitutes "town hall meetings". The real town hall meeting has to occur when they are back in the District in August. I had planned to show up with video camera in hand, and proceed with at least one other person, to ask a series of questions addressing the articles of impeachment. I will ask him what he thinks of every civil liberty erosion George W. Bush has caused, and get him on film referring to Bush by name as many times as humanly possible. No one wants name association with Bush, so that's what I"m going for.

My guy is up for re-election and my District, even though gerrymandered, is STILL populated over 52% by Democratic voters. Amature film, or not, he should be pretty well served by that meeting, unless he refuses to have one.

Hey, it's my best idea yet, and I've already been doing leg work through his staff. It's like herding cats to get a response, but I aint giving up.
