I have not been much on DU recently and do not read all the attacks on the candidates.
But when I do read comments that if (fill in the blank) is the nominee, that DUers will not vote for the candidate, may even vote for "moderate Republican" I have to wonder.
It is quite certain that there will be a vacancy in the Supreme Court in the near future, possible with John Paul Stevens who is 87 but possible with Ruth Bader Ginsburg who is a cancer survivor.
It is not about Iraq; it is not about civil liberties; it is not about the U.S Attorneys, about Bush and Cheney trashing the Constitution. All of these issues can reach the Supreme Court. And then, of course, there are the "minor" issues of women's privacy and protection against job discrimination.
Do DUers who cannot stand Clinton's voice, or Edwards' haircut, Obama's lack of sound byte, Richardson's lack of focus, Kucinich, Biden and Dodd lengthy service in politics - and nothing else - really prefer to have "a moderate Republican" nominate the next Supreme Court Justice?
Plus, if we do retain the majority in Congress and have a Democrat in the White House - we won't have to worry about vetoing stem cell research or timetable withdrawal from Iraq.
I cannot believe, I cannot understand how anyone calling himself/herself a Democrat, a member of DU, someone even with the word "left" in his/her screen name can so easily declare that if (fill in the blank) is the nominee, this DUer will not vote for the nominee.
I think that I am going to post this message once every month, or so, until November 2008.
