Notice how Cindy has sucked all the air out of DU? No talk of Gonzales
or the upcoming Debates but all this talk about her stunt of sitting inon a great American. It is insane to be dedicating all this bandwidth to give attention to cheap theatrics that accomplish nothing. Now, what about Gonzo's testimony? How can we get him out? And who is gonnna win the Debate?

and she's the only one catalyzing action...people are being killed, maimed for life, suffering incredible daily lives because of this evil lie-based morally reprehensible occupation.

We need to keep the pressure on ALL of our reps, even the ones most likely to agree with us.

Cindy understands that. I hope she gets a lot of press.

8. Let me say the following as the parent of a child (my only daughter, age 23)
who was tragically killed in '93 in a car accident. She and the driver were both killed. My feelings were as you would expect, numbing. There are days still when I think she is going to walk in the door. Having said that, I find Ms. Sheehan's ongoing manipulation and agregious use of her son's death not only astonishing but incomprehensible. I do understand her motivations in the begining of her crusade. It was a normal path fired by anger, hurt and most of all the uselessness of it all. She made her point, we all heard her and saw her. She has now become, to me, a royal pain in the ass. She is a distraction and has become needy for the adulation she received in the beginning of her desire to justify her son's death. I feel for her and have empathy in the manner of one parent to another. I wish she would just move on....

9. The loss of your daughter must have been devastating
Edited on Mon Jul-23-07 05:44 PM by marylanddem
And perhaps, had you had the opportunity to try to prevent others children from dying in the same way, you would have felt compelled to undertake the kinds of civil actions Ms. Sheehan has felt compelled to undertake. Perhaps this is her way to find some redemption or meaning in Casey's death. Perhaps she will, indeed, help prevent more deaths by her acts of courage/civil disobedience...

16. My goodness...
... I'm so sad for your loss.

Couldn't it be possible that she is moving on to the ultimate next step, since she and you and I know there was no answer for "what noble cause".

Couldn't that be the next step what she may be able to do within the larger elements surrounding this awful situation we are in?

Just a thought. Again, I'm very sorry.

38. Your point is very valid and I do try and think out of the box. However,
I get the feeling she is being "managed" and it's gotten out of control. Please do not misunderstand. In the beginning of her quest I greatly admired her efforts, much like the "Jersey Girls." They made their points and I shall never forget them. Ms. Sheehan is
starting to grate on people and she is becoming redundant. Just my opinion.. Thank you for your kind words...

12. Wow, looks like Cindy will replace the all-powerful Clenis!
Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound! To sway the subjects of debate on every progressive site on the Internet! To...

Okay I'm being sarcastic. So here's a suggestion: address what she's doing, complain about her going to Conyers' office, whatever. But if you would rather that DU was discussing other things more, well then... you could start a thread about Gonzo's testimony, for example...

If that was what you really wanted to do, that is.

25. I support
Conyers, and have sent him money even though he's not my rep., because he is one of the few who are doing the work I think we desperately need done.

I support Cindy, and have sent her money, because she's doing even more of the work I think we desperately need done.

What I don't understand is all the attacking. One can say one disagrees or wishes she'd stop, without piling on Repub-style attacks on her motivations, etc.

28. It seems like he's doing something............
but what really has been accomplished? We have had hearings where nothing gets answered and not one person has been held to account for their lies and non-answers. There will be another hearing with Gonzalez. I'm betting the same thing will happen; he will not answer their questions. And what will be done about it? I'm betting absolutely nothing. Now, I'm also betting that I'm not the only one noticing this pattern. I have lost some faith that there are ever going to be repercussions for any of the crimes committed by these felons. And I thank God there are people like Cindy Sheehan willing to put themselves out there and face the ridicule of those who should be hoping that she can bring about some real action. I swear to God, if we don't try and impeach these people, what will our next President (assuming it won't still be Bush) be able to get away with. The threshhold will be so far out there it may never be able to be used again.

30. I most certainly am NOT heartless! I am old enough to have marched against the Vietnam War
And I marched with Cindy when she began. I protest all this crap she is doing because it is slowing down the peace process by denigrating the only people who can end the war.I have never lost a child but Cindy is no more special than any of the other 3000 plus moms who have lost children in this mess, and most are not making all events about themselves.
Supposedly Cindy left the peace movemnt to "get her life together".Then she now jumps into leading the Impeachment charge by demeaning the motives of one of our most productive and progressive members of congress.Cindy is turning all the efforts of these well intentioned people into garbage. And then she insults and spews venom at the Democratic Party.Cindy is the heartless one.She doesn't care who she hurts in her quest for infamy.

39. Quest for infamy??? Could you possibly mean "fame"?
How is it that justified criticism of the Democratic party always seems to get consigned to "spewing venom"?

Imagine if *all* the other 3,000 plus moms who have lost children in this mess decided to organize and demand that our politicians end this war? Maybe that group of insulting, venom-spewing witches could get the Dems to do their duty and hold Bushco accountable, and end the war.

Any day that the Democrats fail to do what they were elected to do in November 2006 is a day that will live in infamy!!!

Cindy kind of wore herself down with her good work to try to end the war. She had surgery while in that pursuit. I think the lady (and she is one) deserved to take time for herself, and having refreshed herself, now is doing what she can to inspire a peace process which seems pretty anemic at this juncture.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Sheehan is a public figure, and if it is done civilly there is absolutely nothing wrong with expressing one's opinion on her actions, good or bad.

There isn't any talk of Gonzales because, like many other scandals, this administration will go farther than we will to win the fight.

Remember Richard Clarke vs Condi Rice? Now he's out, and she got a promotion. This isn't the first time they kicked our asses when we were right.

Edited on Tue Jul-24-07 12:17 PM by truedelphi
There would be no way that requests of the Bush admin. for any materially relevant papers or testimony could be opposed (Read horse with no name's excelletn topic from a few days ago - you can find it at http://tinyurl.com/2fmd42 )

But since impeachment is off the table - then all that happens is that Bush can, using his newly decreed authority extending Executive Privilege, continue to duck and cover

Of course, he can be held in contempt - but that has no teeth.

Funny that you exist to bash Cindy more than to promote a cause or denounce the *monster
