I just did a Google news search on John Conyers.
Cindy Sheehan and David Lindorff and the others in the group have been topics filling DU today and for several days.

I wanted to see if there was anyone defending John Conyers, who has done so much for our party and our country.

Nope. Just Cindy and David showing up right now.

See for yourself.

http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=us&ie=UTF-8&q=%22john+conyers%22

Why should a Democrat who works as hard as Conyers keep working when jackasses like Lieberman go unscathed?

I did a search at Google news, now I will do a blog search there to see if anyone is standing up for Conyers.

1. Same could be said about all the crap Feingold got here yesterday for calling for a censure
It was said that Feingold lacks guts and doesn't understand the constitution on DU yesterday after he submitted his motion to censure.

Conyers and Feingold aren't he enemy. It won't convince other members of Congress to join them when you attack people like Conyers and Feingold.

These 2 are on our side and have our backs. We need to have theirs.

I don't see many bloggers standing up for him....just attacking him for what he said he would try to do.

5. In all fairness only the people of Connecticut are to blame for lieberman
They knew what he stood for, especially in regard to the war, and they still voted for him

They deserve exactly what they got

Hopefully in 2008 the Democrats will take back the Senate in a big way, and lieberman will be set on the back burner along with the people of Conecticut who voted him in

Please note, I realize there were a sizable amount of people in Connecticut who voted against him, but the way our system is, it is all or nothing

17. Wasn't John Conyers the only one asking for Impeachment
two summers ago? Didn't he say that we had to take back the Senate or House before some movement in Impeachment could be started? Now he say's that all he needs is three more members of congress to sign on. Cindy is just letting him know that the time is now. I really wouldn't believe that Cindy is going after Conyers. I really have such hope for John Conyers. I wait with hope that he will be able to reach the goal he talked about and impeach. We are with you John. Let's just do it.

Conyers was way ahead of the issue when something COULD have been done, where was Cindy Sheehan and the rest of those crowding his office then?

Did they push THEIR representatives and Senators to stop the madness before it happened. How many really called or wrote Washington and said DO NOT VOTE FOR THE IWR? DO NOT VOTE FOR THE PATRIOT ACT?

29. All I can say is "Consider the source."
And once you do that, don't let it worry you.

Life's too short, and you can't make a shortsided person see the long view.

John Conyers has a lifetime of hard work under his belt. A few tantrum-throwers aren't going to tarnish his legacy, never fear.

10. We are way beyond "looking into".
Conyers and other congressional dems have had plenty of time, and plenty of evidence to do much more than "look into" contempt charges,

Those who bash Cindy Sheehan ought to remember that absolutely nothing has been accomplished by Conyers and others in terms of bringing justice to this bush cabal. Meanwhile the Constitution is in shreds.

14. No, "this place" expects results.
And so far, there have been none. We have gotten nothing in return for putting the dems in charge of congress. No end in sight in Iraq. No contempt charges. Nothing in hearings beyond "I don't recall". No impeachment. Nothing.

And the Constitution is in shreds while Congress watches, evidently powerless.

I assume you mean after a dem is elected president in 2008. Which presumes congress has taken some action to prevent another stolen election. As far as I know, they have not, and if you think these rethugs and the bush cabal are going to stand by and give up the WH, you are very mistaken.

Edited on Tue Jul-24-07 02:09 PM by mzmolly
The R's can help Bush continue down the fruitless path in Iraq (that has 80% of America enraged) or they can act with the Democrats to end the war by voting for a 120 day deadline.

46. From the tone I hear from the R's now, I don't see them joining..
the dems in September. Did you hear Graham (R-SC) the other day on MTP? He's totally against any kind of deadline.

And if Petraus says anything other than "we need lots more time", I will be shocked. He's going to say exactly what Bush and ceney want him to say, because he's a complete tool and a traitor.

33. For the life of me I cannot understand why her peeps keep hectoring us
After all, she's not a Democrat. She proudly let everyone know that on her innumberable dissertations at Kos--the "Take Ball, Go Home" one, followed by the "I'm BAAAACK!" one, which said she was going to mount an independent campaign against Nancy Pelosi.

Absent a Democratic challenger, Nancy will be the DU supported candidate, assuming the DU rules hold, and the Cindy-indy supporters will have to start their own little fan website.

I'd rather see the war end than see a vanity impeachment that comes to nothing, if I could only have one of the two. And that's the choice, realistically. We're unlikely to get both, especially at this late stage. Sure, it would be nice, but this bashing of those of us who see the forest for the trees needs to stop. It's almost Rovian in its relentlessness. And it's unhelpful as well, to be kind about it.

As I was, because like you (as stated in post #23), I thought Conyers had said the other day he needed "just three more" to begin impeachment proceedings. But in his meeting with Sheehan and the others on Monday, he apparantly contradicted that statement, unless you believe Lindorrf is simply lying:

(from the dreaded Lindorrf essay)

"This reporter subsequently called Conyers’ press office for an explanation of Conyers’ true position on impeachment. Only a few days earlier the congressman, visiting a San Diego meeting on health care reform, had told members of Progressive Democrats of America that it was time to “take these two guys (Bush and Cheney) out” and had promised that if just “a few more” members of the House signed on to the Kucinich bill (it already has 14 co-sponsors), he would move it forward for consideration in his Judiciary Committee. Asked how that statement squared with what he had told the group of activists in his office, the spokesman said Conyers’ “must have been misunderstood” in San Diego. He said that in view of Conyers’ statement to Sheehan and the others today, the Kucinich bill was “not going to go anywhere.”"
