14. It's such a silly argument
Of course, in a perfect world a Congressman or Senator would make every roll call vote. But the political reality is that most votes are not that close, so his presence is a moot point.

I didn't like it when they did it to Kerry. I won't like it if they do it to Obama.

This is a complete non issue. McCain was not there either. The vote was 85-8. If someone makes an issue of this down the road they will look pretty stupid at the end of the day.

32. That is NOT the point. The point is that he should want to be on record as being for or against it
Real leadership means knowing that as a Senator, and as someone running for the highest office on this country, the American people cannot make an adequate determination about you if you won't put yourself on record.

Whether his vote was needed or not to pass the bill is beside the point. He should have wanted to be on record.

28. The Bush method of ignoring our
enemies has failed. If people talk, maybe hostilities can be avoided, nothing is lost by trying.

Not speaking, to everyone, is a failure of imagination. Truthfully, I think this debate makes Hillary look much, much worse than Obama. I'm undecided (except that I know I don't support Hillary)but Obama's comment makes him look more appealing to me.

It would be best for the Hillary people not to ridicule him in this instance, I doubt it will help.

Going after Obama is an incredibly stupid strategy. Howard Dean did horrible trying to broad brush the entire Dem Party, and it won't work for Edwards either. Joe Trippi is an idiot. Nobody is going to forget Edwards and Clinton are the real two peas in a pod.

We will see this with Obama, Clinton and other the other candidates.

This happened in 2004 with both Kerry and Edwards. Kerry always had the Senate record indicate the direction he would vote.

This has always happened - but the campaigns are now longer.

37. The thing is....
He has all that money to jump on a plane and get back for the vote...

The only reason it looks bad at all is the timing of the bill...

Right when Obama says he is the new way, or the different method or the talk to me policy, whatever, he is caught not making a vote for a national security issue...

I'm not so worried about what dem's are gonna say...

I'm more worried about how this will play next year when the GOP brings it up...
