4. What part of this is not true?
Another Hillary tempest in a teapot attempt to smear her. I remember years of garbage about her hair. And I recall her patient good humor in dealing with it. For a hard-working, intelligent, professional woman to have to swallow years of that...for what? For the good of her country? For her husband and child? For simple good manners because she was raised that way?

She went thru all of it and came out on top. Is she supposed to pretend it didn't happen?

The hypocrisy here is not Hillary's, dear.

19. I meant it's HER satire.
She's making fun of all those people who think her "hair" is a big deal, yet appealing to a fairly large group of potential supporters.

I mean, let's face it, being well groomed is important - no matter the candidates sex.

They are still a sinister, ugly, and evil part of society.
They must be eliminated for society to flourish.

People who don't understand that are part of the problem

39. The brochure is ironic and self-deprecating. Very clever.
Edited on Fri Jul-27-07 10:13 PM by tblue37
Her point is that she has been slammed for decades for her hair, and she is humorously using that fact, which speaks to the shallowness of our political culture, as a way of establishing a rhetorical bond with the people who style hair--i.e., her audience, the very people she should be trying to connect with while making this speech. What's wrong with doing this? Don't you want our candidates to be able to reach the people who might vote for them? Didn't everyone complain that Al Gore didn't do that when he campaigned for president?

Let me translate for you. She's saying: "It shouldn't be the whole point of our political culture, but image does have an impact, as I have discovered the hard way, but fortunately, I have found beauticians--skilled people like you guys--who have styled me in a way that helps me to deflect such off topic criticism while I am trying hard to concentrate on doing the people's work."

BTW, Hillary isn't my choice. I like Gore/Clark, Gore/Edwards, Clark/Edwards, Edwards/Clark, or Obama as VP candidate with any of the above--in that order. But wtf is the point of attempting RW like smears against the people on our own team, even if we don't want them to get the nomination? Criticize the ones you don't want to see get the nomination, sure, but criticize them substantively, not with pictures of them with cigarettes hanging from their mouths or for their clever (and self-deprecating) playing up ridiculous widespread criticism of their changing hairstyles when speaking to beauticians!

Back to add: Didn't we all love it when John Edwards' campaign came out with a satirical video spot that played up the controversy over his hair?

slammed for having a few wrinkles that show up in close-up a photo? She is about 60, right? I am 57 next month. I wish I looked half as good!

Are we now going to criticize Helen Thomas for having some wrinkles, too? Surely you could find a picture of Helen with her wrinkles showing under her makeup.

These might be our candidates for the general election, our team. Let's not frag them. Criticize substantively, not frag. OK?
