Obama Goofed by Not Including Caveat (Day before debate, said only "under certain conditions")
http://www.miamiherald.com/421/story/182541.html

I was not terribly surprised when Sen. Barack Obama said in the Democratic presidential debate Monday that he would sit down with Cuba's Fidel Castro and Venezuela's Hugo Chávez if elected president. He had told me so a day earlier -- and much more -- although with a very important caveat.

In a wide-ranging interview on foreign affairs, and Latin America in particular, the Democratic presidential hopeful criticized President Bush's foreign policy as excessively ''based on the dislike of Hugo Chávez.'' And he told me that he would not only sit down with the Venezuelan president ''under certain conditions'' but would travel to leftist-ruled Bolivia -- Venezuela's closest ally in South America -- at the start of his presidency.

2. Could it be that Obama was pandering?
Or is his policy on meeting with our rivals and enemies depend on whatever he happens to feel like that day?

17. When faced with the truth- Obama supporters turn a deaf ear..
and gladly take a nap!

Next we'll see the "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure" tactic..covering their ears singing:

LA-LA-LAH- I can't hear YOU! LA-LA-LA-LAH!

13. And quit with the predetermined agendas
that are impossible for enemies to meet. Which Hillary has said she will continue with, because she still believes in the "prestige" of holding things over peoples heads, like food and medicine.

5. Which is it?
So on Sunday it was "under certain conditions", on Monday it was "without precondition", then the Obama camp clarified it to talking only after laying the groundwork for discussion, and now it is back to being spun as "without precondition" (the only way to distinguish him from HRC on this).

8. All meetings with the president are under certain conditions.
If Glenda the Good Witch wanted to meet with the president there would be low level meetings beforehand.

In other words, Hillary Clinton gave the same answer to the question as Barack Obama.

9. Bingo!
Obama said you are not going to invite them over to a cup of coffee without setting some minimalist basic meeting guidelines. What Obama rejects is the notion that we should strong-arm our way into any first meeting.. i.e. continuing with the Bushco bullying attitude of willfully ignoring to meet our enemies. We are creating more enemies with that kind of attitude.

What the heck should we be afraid of?

10. I think that is the same thing all the Dems think.
I don't understand why Obama insists that he is so different when it is obvious they are all saying the same thing.

11. Exactly
The Obama team has not been sure how they want to spin this, as I showed in post 5. It seems they have finally settled on using this to claim there is a difference between him and HRC on this "huge" issue. This is solid political strategy. Why? For all the fiery rhetoric between their supporters at DU the truth is that on policy they are two sides of the same coin. They have nothing else they can fight over so Obama is seizing on this to paint HRC as a status quo candidate and also remind voters that HRC voted for the IWR. HRC, for her part, is using this to 1) reinforce the perception that Obama is too inexperienced to be president and 2) rope-a-dope Obama into losing the sheen of his "new kind of politics" image. Thus far, I would say HRC is winning the battle.

18. Hillary's camp has already declared Obama's campaign is going up in smoke!
Obama is in a peck of trouble because for one he's playing dirty politics, which is going against his pledge of "new" politics. And second the below the belt name calling, attempting to smear Hillary as Bush/Cheney lite. Obama's word is good only as long as your hearing it because tomorrow his word, more than likely, will swing in the opposite direction...

12. He didn't say "only"
He said under certain conditions, he would meet with anybody. Not for tea and cookies, like he already said, but also not holding pre-determined conditions over someone's head either.

14. I guess he was for preconditions before he was against them.
It really takes some gaul to accuse someone else of doing what you are actually doing yourself.

15. His answer showcased the administration's dumbass policy
of not speaking to adversaries. It separated the wheat from the chaff with regard to foreign policy.

Obama made no mistake.
