Why isn't the press reporting REAL news about the candidates instead of nonsense?
Today, four Democratic candidates addressed the National Urban League. All of them gave very in-depth, well-thought-out remarks about urban issues. Each of them answered interesting, probing questions about their policies - much better questions and answers than we usually see in debates.

Among other things, the candidates each endorsed the National Urban League's Opportunity Compact, which sets forth 10 concrete recommendations for closing the economic equality gaps between blacks and whites.

Yet, what does the press cover? A couple of sentences our of John Edwards' presentation in which he took Clinton and Obama to task for bickering. Hardly anything else he - or anyone else - said during the forum is getting the same attention as this inside-baseball remark.

Hey, press - this race is about issues, not personalities! You beat up on candidates for not talking seriously about the issues, but when they do, you ignore them.

TOP TEN POLICY PRIORITIES OF THE OPPORTUNITY COMPACT

Opportunity to Thrive (Children)

1. Commit to mandatory early childhood education beginning at age three as well as guarantee access to college for all.

2. Close the gaps in the health insurance system to ensure universal healthcare for all children.

3. Establish policies that provide tools for working families to become economically self-sufficient.

Opportunity to Earn (Jobs)

4. Create an urban infrastructure bank to fund reinvestment in urban communities (e.g. parks, schools, roads).

5. Increase economic self-sufficiency by indexing the minimum wage to the rate of inflation and expanding the Earned Income Tax
Credit to benefit more working families.

6. Expand “second chance” programs for high school drop outs, exoffenders and at-risk youth to secure GEDs, job training and employment.

Opportunity to Own (Housing)

7. Adopt the “Homebuyer’s Bill of Rights” as recommended by the National Urban League.

8. Reform public housing to assure continuing national commitment to low-income families.

Opportunity to Prosper (Entrepreneurship)

9. Strongly enforce federal minority business opportunity goals to ensure greater minority participation in government contracting.

10. Build capacity of minority business through expansion of microfinancing, equity financing and the development of strategic
alliances with major corporations.

1. Because the media don't care about anything but nonsense.

They had fun taking down Gore in 2000 with all their lame lies about him. Margaret Carlson admitted that. You can learn a lot about media lies and incompetence at

http://www.dailyhowler.com

You can search the archives and see how they've played dirty against Democrats for years, while fawning over the likes of Bush and McCain.

3. It just require a little work to cover issues. They have to keep
the GOP propped up . Getting into specifics of Issues
affecting the daily lives of Americans might not be so
good for GOP.
