White House grapples with differing testimony by attorney general, FBI director
The Associated Press
Published: July 27, 2007

WASHINGTON: The White House labored to explain Friday how apparently contradictory testimony from Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and FBI Director Robert S. Mueller was not at odds.

Appearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, Gonzales repeatedly and emphatically said President George W. Bush's secret warrantless domestic spying program was not the subject of internal disagreement in 2004 within the Bush administration. Mueller, appearing Thursday before the House Judiciary Committee, said it was. ~snip~

White House press secretary Tony Snow said .... "There has never been at any juncture along the line any disagreement about the propriety or legality of that program" ....

When asked if both Mueller and Gonzales were telling the truth, Snow said, "Yes, I think so. ...

1. I'm waiting for the "I'm made out of rubber, you're made out of glue" argument from the WH.
Actually, that would raise the level of debate, at this point. MKJ

3. Actually, Mueller in his non-answers also hinted at another program
if you read the transcript very carefully. Which I hope our team is doing. Mueller, I think, wants to talk about 'that other program', while Gonzo is dead-set against talking about the specific TSP and he is only opening the door to an investigation as to what "that" is.

There's something much, much bigger going on, which dwarfs TSP. Gonzo is desperately trying to deflect questions away from it, but like most Bush appointees, he's an idiot and incapable of carrying out his mission.

There's something underneath all of this, just add Mueller's testimony to Gonzo's, you'll see it too. Read carefully.

9. I agree and, as I've said before, it's evident from the fact that both Gonzo
and Mueller were smooth as a greased wheel in their testimony UNTIL
(and this is in both cases) the questions turned to the "program."
That's when they began sputtering, stuttering and stalling in their
answers which often is indicative that the person is lying.

4. I'm awed that they even bother this much.
When it's so clear they don't feel they have to explain anything.

7. Oh what a tangled web republicons weave
When they practice to decieve - by lying to America over and over and over.

My suggestion: tell the truth. For once.

10. "Apparently contradictory" my sweet Aunt Fanny
They said two completely different, mutually exclusive things. That's not an "apparent" contradiction; it's a contradiction, plain and simple.

So nice to see how the Republicans have so "elevated" our national discourse that reporters and editors can't even call a spade a spade anymore, they're so bamboozled by the nonsensical rhetoric about "bipartisanship," "fairness" and "balance." Dipshits.

11. Here's an idea - why not find out the truth, and fire the person who lied!
Nah, we wouldn't want to change tactics now
