Hazmat Scare Closes D.C. Metro Stations
Several Dead Birds Found After Man Reported Spraying Substance WASHINGTON, July 29, 2007

Two Metro stations are closed while hazmat crews and officials investigate several dead birds and a strange substance at those stations.
Cathy Asato is a Metro spokeswoman. She says the Greenbelt and Takoma stations are closed while authorities investigate. She says the Greenbelt station had as many as 20 dead birds outside, and the others had one to three each.
The first report came from Naylor Road just after noon today. Alan Etter with the D.C. fire department says officials are looking for a person in a black pickup truck who witnesses saw spraying the substance.
He says authorities from several jurisdictions are on the scene checking things out. He says a similar incident took place several years ago with rat poison, so the authorities are investigating that possibility.
