ANOTHER Iraqi war veteran endorses Biden

"This is the guy you want running the country and making decisions." Mowrer said of Biden, the veteran Delaware senator who has continuously emphasized his expertise in foreign relations and touted a detailed exit strategy from Iraq. "You don't want him looking at the secretary of state and secretary of defense and saying 'What's this all about?' He knows."

Biden has laid out a plan to establish a centralized government in Iraq with three distinct governing regions for the Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds, with evenly distributed oil revenues. The plan, he has said, can lead to a gradual troop withdrawal to end U.S. occupation.

With his new position, Mowrer joins the ranks of Iraq war veterans who have joined Biden's presidential campaign. In June, former Marine and Iraq war veteran J.B. White took the helm as national coordinator for Veterans for Biden. Mowrer's and White's duties will be similar, but Mowrer's duties will remain within Iowa. He plans to focus on Biden's exit strategy for Iraq, as well as support for returning Iraq veterans and much-needed resources for troops still in the country.

2. The Biden Iraq Plan is both arrogant and undoable
First of all, the mere idea that we Americans are entitled to break up a country into three "equal parts" with "evenly distributed oil revenues" is preposterous. We tell the Iraqis where they are supposed to go? We relocate Iraqis for their benefit?

If you know where the main wells are, they are in primarily Shiite zones with some in the northern regions where the Kurds already are. The Sunnis would get very little compared to the Shiites. The Kurds would get attacked by the Turks or Iranians.

This map shows where the oil is. Notice where the Sunnis are compared to the Shiites.

It might look good on paper to some and Joe can give a fiery speech, but it's a losing proposition if you do a half hour of research on the subject.

3. There is nothing that burns my butt more than someone bashing the
Biden/Gelb plan who obviously doesn't know the first thing about it.

Your argument makes no sense against the plan, because it is not based on the plan.
Especially about the oil revenues.

Here is some simple reading about it. And if that is too much, then just read the last section.

4. So we have a right to chisel up Iraq for their benefit?
You want something simple to understand. The plan would never happen.

Don't feed me the propaganda. I know the deal.

Answer me this simple question. Does America or any other country have the right to tell the Iraqi people where they need to move to like they are our little children?

5. No - absolutely not.

Biden's plan does not force anything on anyone.

Biden actually read the Iraqi constitution and wrote this plan from that.
Iraqi's are already relocating to safe areas. Look at the Kurds.

I am not going to debate this with you until you read the link I posted,
because again you are trying to argue against misinformation.

on edit - Iraqi Vets support it....Foreign relations experts support it .....Richardson and Obama both
publicly support it.... maybe their is something to it?

7. Wise move.
You wont get anywhere with that one.Biden isn't Obama so you'll never please the poster.

My own opinion is,it may indeed be unworkable, but at least he's put thought into his plan, which is more than most of the others can say.The frontrunners are all playing various parts of the same weak theme in regards to this.Biden looks far better on this than they do.

10. I admit it. Biden has been to my parent's house. I know him well enough.
Edited on Mon Sep-03-07 06:35 PM by zulchzulu
My parents live in Delaware and he's been over to their home for various events. I've shaken Biden's hand in my parent's kitchen. I have an uncle who was on the football team with Biden at Archmere Academy. I could drive you to where he lives, where he likes to eat Italian food, where he likes a good burger, where he likes to drink a good pint. I know Biden. Personally.

As for him, I like him. As for a lot of his policies, I'll pass.

Support Biden. Have at it. Do what you can. Like I said, he's a good guy. He's just not the person I want to be President.

9. I guess Joe was right about voting for the war in the first place?
It looks all nice and dandy on paper as we attempt to inflict borders and boundaries like the British did.

As for Biden's support of the Iraq War Resolution, how does he get off with saying he has a plan for an obvious quagmire that he didn't see coming?

You'd think in his infinite wisdom that he knew that cutting Iraq off by the head and allowing the sectarian civil war to burst out without an exit strategy would have been a dumb move.

I read the link and already understand the plan. It's garbage bent on imperialistic arrogance. Read the small print.

12. SOME "Iraqi vets support it"
I know you mean some Iraqi vets support segregation in Iraq as part of our exported "democracy." I'm sure you wouldn't want people thinking that was a blanket statement about Iraqi vets in general.

I thought it would be good to state that directly in this case. :)
