Virginia Senate: Is Tom Davis getting cold feet...looks like the prospect of facing Mark Warner...
May be scaring him off....

Mark Warner should be making his intentions known soon!!!

Not Larry Sabato reports that sources close to Rep. Davis say he may be getting cold feet about running for Senate next year, and could wait til after this November's elections on a decision. Is this really surprising?

If Mark Warner runs, Tom Davis would have no chance of being elected to the U.S. Senate in 2008. Plus, when Chap Peterson beats Mrs. Davis for her State Senate seat in 2 months, Tom's political stock will plummet. Perhaps he realizes how lucky he is to hold a seat in Congress in an increasingly blue district. But you have to wonder...if Davis runs for re-election, do any of the Democrats rumored to be eyeing the seat get cold feet?

4. Awwww, let Davis declare first
Then Warner will wipe him off the floor, PLUS he will lose his house seat.

I admit, I'm evil. I can't stand that man.

3. Okay here is the field as I see it
Kaine won't run he has to finish his term as Governor
I find it hard to believe that Mark won't run. It is sitting there for the taking and the life of a Senator is a good one.
Booby Scott isn't going anywhere
Doug (Wilder) is loving this mixing it up with city council plus he has one more election to get into the mayor for life realm.

Cantor-he could be their guy keep an eye on him BUT he could lose all the position and power (as formulatic as it is) if he runs and loses.
Allen-too soon? Hard to say but against Mark no way.
Gilmore- oh please do
Goode is staying where he is
Ollie?? John wouldn't have stepped down if that was even a possiblity (he stopped Ollie the last time thanks to Marshall Coleman, whose wife left him over that run)

6. Republicans are in deep trouble in Virginia...
Tom Davis's loyalty to the chimp and his extremely cozy ties with K Street are going to come back and bite him. He really doesn't stand much of a chance IMO.

If his wife is defeated by Chap Peterson in November? COuld be another factor in his apparent decision to wait!

8. That would be a huge blow to him...
and he will even be in very real trouble in his own District if he runs again I think. The Virginia Democratic Party will go after him aggressively now, and especially if his wife loses.

Did you see the article about Cuccinelli this morning? I loved the part about the woman who went up and told him she hoped he enjoyed himself because he was done, and made the sign of the guillotine across her neck. I think you could say that about the whole Republican Party in this part of Virginia right now.
