1. I didn't see it, but to be fair, I think the general consense about Petraeus is...
that he's a fine soldier, a good man, but is being used by the White House (Cheney), as the W.H. has used so many of the military before.

4. Derby- You kind of wrong here!!!!
I just watched Mtp interview and Biden DID NOT praise Petraeus as much as you think.I don't know what interview you were watching! He agreed w/ Petraeus's report about the surge not really working but he blatanly disagreed w/ Petraeus's likely recommendations and called him "dead wrong". Petraeus said that we have "the ball and are moving it down the field towards the goal" and Biden outright disagreed saying that "the secretarian violence will still be there and THAT is the problem here" and it will not go away- Unless we give them local control- a centralized government WILL NOT work. Period."

As far as the MoveOn.Org ad that said "General Petreaus or General Betray US" Biden called Petreaus a "respectable man" and said that that was a load of bull. Biden said that "by it's own measure the surge has failed" and "What was the reason for the surge?- "to provide breathing room- for what purpose? To allow the secretarian war infractions to reach a political compromise and that didn't happen. Petraeus is telling the truth about this" Biden said. Biden also said that "there has been some tactical gains but w/ no bearing on the political settlement in Iraq"
And I quote that directly from MTP because I taped it. Biden only agrees w/ Petraeus on the surge not working- end of story. But he still respects him as our General. General Petreaus is damned if he does or damned if he doesn't in this situation that the President has put him into. You don't to this to your General. Bush is an ass! And I'm also disappointed w/ you Derby for posting this this way!!!!!

6. Everyone needs to watch the interview themselves
and come to their own conclusions. I was impressed with his answers and he showed that he is the only candidate who really understands the situation in Iraq. He is not saying what he thinks voters want to hear. He is speaking the truth from his own first hand observations and his extensive foreign affairs experience.

I'm so tired of people using Iraq as a political football, especially when so many lives are at stake.

He in no way wants to stay in Iraq. He explains how he sees the unrealistic approach that is currently being promoted with a large central govt.

Think about it, we do not have a central, nationalized police force. Biden said that will not work in Iraq.

When Biden finished the show I was totally inspired, patriotic feeling. He doesn't force his ideas on you, rather he explains how he comes to the conclusions he does. I believe he is probably the most sincere candidate we have, agree with him or not on issues, he has less BS going on. The man is not rich, is that a clue if he has been bought and paid for?

Edit: Must add Kuchinich to the honesty list. Agree or not, his plans and ideas come from thinking, not faith or votes.

5. I just watched it
and he praised General Petraeus, but "disagreed" with him. He said, "I respect him, but he is DEAD, FLAT WRONG."

If anyone wants to judge Biden on his assessment of the conditions in Iraq, they should watch the segment themselves.

DO you think BUSH went to IRAQ for a visit? he went to make sure that the generals report
would be to continue the surge! Is the surge working=hell no! you can't hold people in bondage! and thats what we're doing! we are not wanted! if the iraqis(govt) can't come together there can be no peace.
Its time to start the withdrawal process.5 years of waste and destruction and no end in sight.
let history note that "bush, cheney and crew " blew it!
as far as petreaus goes,he's a loyal soldier and will serve his comander in chief no matter how inept he is!
like bidden said I have great respect for the general but I disagree with him!

7. I watched it and that is a distortion of what the Senator said.

He also did not diss Move On .Org. He did not agree with the "Betray Us"and followed by saying the general was a decent man,and he respected him, but he was dead wrong.

Watch it for yourself, don't rely on 2nd hand information.

14. On becoming the Democratic nominee
MR. RUSSERT: Many Democrats who will vote in the primary, Senator, will say “The only way to stop this war, Senator Biden, is to cut off funding. Everything else is small talk, and unless you’re willing to do that, you will not be the Democratic nominee.”

SEN. BIDEN: First of all, let’s speak truth to power here. You need 67 votes to cut that off. All 51 votes will do is delay building these vehicles. And, look, Tim, if you tell me I’ve got to take away this protection for these kids in order to win the election, some things aren’t worth it. Some things are worth losing over. That would be worth losing over. Hundreds of lives are being saved and will be saved by us sending these vehicles over which we are funding with this supplemental legislation. And I want to ask any of my other colleagues, would they, in fact, vote to cut off the money for those troops to protect them? That’s the right question. This isn’t cutting off the war. This is cutting off support that will save the lives of thousands of American troops.
