Senate Republicans received a briefing yesterday on new polls and focus groups of “swing voters” about health care and the expansion of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP).

Afterward, Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) told CongressDaily (subscription only):

he briefing was encouraging because it showed that from a policy perspective, swing voters are aligned with Senate Republicans.…

“They’re not crazy about SCHIP expansion. They think it’s a really bad idea.”

Despite what the GOP would like to think, public opinion is firmly behind expanding health care coverage to millions of children.
