Sparse Schedule for Thompson on Campaign Trail

LAKELAND, Fla., Sept. 15 — At his second campaign stop of the day on Friday, just after 2 p.m., Fred D. Thompson was deep into a riff on the benefits of high-quality American health care.

“It’s allowing us to live healthier lives and to live longer,” Mr. Thompson, a former Republican senator from Tennessee, said at a Jaycee park here. “That’s good news. But we have more retired folks. I hope to become one of them one of these days.”

Nervous laughter from the audience.

“Not too soon,” he added hastily.

Basically, he can handle three stops a day, and even that tires him and leaves him befuddled.

1. Is this the worst bunch you've ever seen
or what. 1996 wasn't that great, but this bunch, criminy. Dan Quayle would be an improvement.

2. It is surprisingly bad...
ad the funny part, is I can't think of anybody who's NOT running that improve their field. Maybe Hagel would've, but he wouldn't have a shot.

3. You're going out on a limb here
You're assuming he wasn't already befuddled when he got up in the morning.

7. He was able to get his take on drilling for oil in the Everglades though
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2007/09/18/thompson-wont-rule-out-everglades-drilling/

"Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson said Tuesday that while drilling for oil in Florida’s Everglades would be “drastic,” he won’t rule it out."

“Well, gosh. Nobody has told me that there are any major reserves in the Everglades, but maybe that’s one of the things I need to learn while I’m down here,” Thompson responded.

This guy is a real winner. :eyes:

8. He keeps forgetting that he's not retiring. He's bummed, you can tell.
65, cancer, and two babies, and now he's gotta run for Preznit. What's a sick lazy old fart to do? I think he's sabotaging himself on purpose.
