Why didn't the Minority Dems get a resolution passed about the Swiftboats?
Edited on Thu Sep-20-07 06:41 PM by Phoebe Loosinhouse
A. They didn't think of it.

B. They thought about it but knew the Republicans would never let it see the light of day

C. They did try but were headed off at the pass and outmaneuvered by the Republicans

Now, how did the minority Republicans get the Move-On resolution passed?

6. I actually meant back in the day
when they were in the minority when those ads came out and it might have meant something. Not trying to belatedly (and unsucessfully ) trying to get a retroactive apolgy for it today.

5. Tongue In Cheek. The Democrats are like the poor Iraqiis
They have been in minority so long and brow-beaten by the
Republicans---have not yet gotten "the hang" of how to be
the Majority.

I have been puzzled at their lack of political skills.
They never seem to be able to get it through their heads--
the GOP are totally political n and always there ready for
any opening to strike.

I would really like the answer to that question. It absolutely
flabbergasts me!

16. Senate rules
It was offered as an amendment. Senate rules are different from those in the House.

13. D: When Reeps were in the majority, the rules were different
...and Dems were locked out by new 'rules' that the Reeps used to shut down debate. The Dems restored the traditional rules of the institution when they took back the gavels, so the Reeps can do more than we could while in the minority.

Short attention span theatre, that's America for ya.

15. True, But ...
... the Dems could readily use this fact as proof it has attempted to bring integrity back to the Congress. However, they have chosen not to capitalize on it. Thus, another wasted opportunity blown by the Dems.

23. This is what the Democrats get for playing fair
Give the Republicans an inch, and they'll take a mile, and stab you in the back.

14. That's the question I've been asking also
It's like we are represented by the gang who couldn't shoot straight.

It's ridiculous that this even made it to the floor for a vote.

They don't know how to articulate their message and continue to let them be defined by the Republicans and forced into defense.

They need some people to teach them how to get some balls and fight back.

17. For the same reason they refuse to call for Bush's resignation.
The boys at the top of the party who call the shots tend to agree with perceptions furthered by Fox News and Rush Limbaugh more than they agree with the DEM base.

19. Because America has moved to the right over the last 30 years.
Fear tends to move thing to the right.

One little ratchet at a time, we ended up here. And I mean simple little stupid things, like city ordinances prohibiting fireworks on the Fourth of July. And of course, it's fire safety. And helmet laws. And seatbelt laws. And drug laws. They all make sense. But there's a little hidden claw in each one.

I knew America was fucked when COPS got a second season.

on issue after issue.

That of course has little to do with what's tossed about in the corporate media- or what passes for "conventional wisdom" inside the beltway.

I may still be wrong. But it seems that Congress is further right than ever. After all, they did prepare to impeach Nixon.

Edited on Fri Sep-21-07 05:52 PM by blm
throughout that election.

Most of the biggest name Dems were publicly siding more with Bush on his terrorism and Iraq war decisions than they were with Kerry.

Most Democrats don't DO back up when one is under attack - no matter HOW unfair that attack might be. A few do.

22. Because a) the Republicans are good with coming up with dirty tricks to play;
and b) Harry Reid stupidly refused or failed to block yesterday's Cornyn resolution.
