I just received an email from Sen. Boxer to support the Biden-Brownback-Boxer Amendment
I thought I would forward along the request to ask your Senators to vote for the amendment, if you are so inclined.
Biden is not my choice for President, but I agree with the fact that there MUST be a viable political solution. I would have been honored to vote for Boxer for the first woman President---if she were running. She was right on the war from the beginning, and she consistently votes the way I would if I were voting on various issues.

I didn't see a post on this, but I apologize if it has been posted somewhere already.

1. It ain't up to these clowns to decide what kind of govt Iraq is to have, it is up to them to
remove US occupation troops. dismantle the military bases. get the foreign mercenaries out of Iraq.

3. Well, it 'aint working this way, either. We "chose" the "democracy" they have now.
It is a way to perhaps get stability, and get us out. The country of Iraq didn't and doesn't exist--except by the world's artificial making.

4.  the answer is Cut and Run. The US military does not belong there, period.
Iraq will not be stable until US invasion forces are removed.

6. There aren't enough votes for "cut and run"-- I am for what we can do NOW.
I seriously doubt your statement that Iraq will be stable if we "cut and run" either. There will continue to be much bloodshed now or if we cut and run. We opened Pandora's box when we invaded.

If setting up a loose federal system in Iraq gets our troops out of there quicker and provides some stability for the people of the region, rather than not at all( or not until we elect a Democrat for President) then I am for it. There are no guarantees, but it to me it is better than NOTHING.

He is soooo damn stubborn, that I can see him leaving the troops there and just ragging on the democrats for not funding the troops. It may have worked with Nixon, but * is much, much worse than Nixon.

14. I understand people being angry and frustrated,
and wanting out NOW, but it will not happen and could cause problems in the Mideast that will have long range repercussions for the U.S. and the rest of the world. We went into Iraq carelessly and irresponsibly, it is vital that we leave with a real, workable plan.

If there is a better way, nobody has presented it thus far.

But I trust Biden on foreign policy. Too bad that even if it passes, it will get vetoed.

9. Tom--
The fact that you think Iraq will be stable if pull out is, I'm sorry, but it's naive. I realize you are upset over the war, which is justified, but just to wash your hands of it all, yank the troops out, and blame bush for the aftermath is not a responsible answer to the problem.

Iraq was MADE out of people "drawing lines." after World War I. Biden's solution offers a way for Iraqis to live in their tribal regions, which the different factions naturally wish to live (unless they can control the entire country by force, which they can't, now) while still being part of a loosely federated country called Iraq. It is the ONLY responsible way out of this. Please read the plan, put your pre-concieved notions aside, and then come back with any honest criticisms you may have.

12. His son is scheduled to be deployed to Iraq in
early 08. Not many senators or congressmen/women can say that. The only thing worse than serving in Iraq is having your child serving there. I can assure you that no member of congress knows more about what is going on in Iraq.

15. But sadly Bush would probably not be held accountable
The blame will quickly be attached to the Democrats and the republicans will have a field day switching the blame to the "cut and run dems".

For those who criticize the plan, I suggest they watch Biden's speech to the senate on cspan's website.

Brownback represents one of many republicans who want a solution to Iraq, but others are afraid to take a stand. This amendment could give them an opportunity to vote for a reasonable solution.

36. Yes, I know it has Boxer's name on it
The only reason that I left her off is that I don't think of her as having great foreign policy experience. I like Boxer, I just don't know anything about her and foreign policy, but if she if for it, I'm sure it is a good bill. I'm glad Brownback is looking for a solution to this, god knows we need it. I disagree with just about everything else about the man. I mention trusting Biden on this matter because he has a good reputation on foreign policy, and I like his plan. Nothing against Boxer at all.

I like Biden, although he does have foot-in-mouth disease at times. There are some things I disagree with him on, but in general, he is a good senator.

This is the only political solution offered.

As Biden says - if you don't like it - fine. But tell me what yours.

11. So now we are ok dividing up other countries our way?
That is what invading a country that never hurt us does to our moral standards. Now it is fine with us to divvy up Iraq and build walls at night.

16. The IRAQI CONSTITUTION says:
"we are a decentralized federal system" Biden is simply trying to implement this. He also admits we need to build an international consensus with the security council and regional powers to aid in this.

He is not drawing lines. It is more like saying that Texas, California, and New York will have more power relative to Washington than these states do now, yet it is still one country. This might not seem like much but it is a very profound difference. Please read up on the plan and keep an open mind.

18. Iraq was originally divided up along secretarian lines.
Somewhere they tried to be ruled by a central government.
It worked under the brutal hand of Saddam. But now that he's gone - to think Iraq can be put together as one is obviously not working.

The Iraqi's themselves are doing this on their own.
They are fleeing their homes by the thousands so that they remain safely with their own kind and creating somewhat autonomous regions. That is why Anbar Province has been so successful.

19. Wow.
What can I say?

We attacked them, killed them, made milions of them homeless so we can divide them.

Those walls those high wall...who is building them? Not the Iraqis.

I am sorry but this is not right. If they wanted to divide themselves that is one thing, but we are occupiers now.

... doesn't back their argument up with facts, figures, etc. or honest criticism after they have READ THE PLAN!

Federalizing iraq is the only way to STOP a genocide (killing more iraqis) AND get our troops out.

23. They have CENTURIES of ethnic warring -- it's in each of their natures to want
to dominate the others. This plan makes the most sense thus far -- and more and more Senators and Congressmen are agreeing with this approach. We can not just pull out and leave behind the horrific mess we made without trying to help them recover.

And like it was mentioned Biden said -- If you have a better plan, what is it?

26. I did not invade them.
I don't need to have a plan. Nor would anyone listen if I had one.

We are not leaving there, that is just stuff they are saying. And I believe we will go along with Bush on bombing Iran, which I find terrifying.

We turned it all loose there when we invaded. So don't turn wrath on me for questioning the wisdom of our meddling in other countries.

35. I understand and align with you on the one hand. On the other, I would feel
ashamed if we didn't try to right the wrong we caused. It may not work, but we have to try something based on peace, support and respect. This is the best that's been presented thus far. We really need to try to work with them now, rather than abandoning them to deal with our crimes.

Honor, respect and build on the constitution of Iraq.
A country that was always divided into secretarian sections until Saddam.
