Poll: Hillary Would Put Tennessee in Play
A poll of 500 “likely voters” in Tennessee indicates that Democrat Hillary Clinton would have an edge over Republicans Rudy Giuliani or Mitt Romney in the 2008 presidential race, but that Fred Thompson would defeat her soundly.

The Rassmussen poll, taken Sept. 19 and released today, shows Thompson leading Clinton by a 54 percent-39 percent margin in a mock matchup among Tennesseans.

The former Tennessee senator has even bigger margins over Barack Obama (60-30) and John Edwards (56-35).

On the other hand, if Giuliani were the Republican nominee, Clinton is shown with a slight lead in Tennessee — 46 percent to 44 percent. The poll also found her leading Romney by a 46-40 margin.

1. wow... let's make a list
recent polls suggest...

Hillary wins VA... Obama doesn't
Hillary wins OH... Obama doesn't
Hillary wins Arkansas - Obama doesn't.

Hillary puts TX and Tenn in play...

Yes, she's unelectable and polorizing.

4. I saw that poll. It was taken of a sampling of "all voters" , right?
But I guess I missed the numerical size of the sample and I wonder if a poll with only 500 voters tells us much. What is the margin of error on that size poll?

12. Finally got it. Poll was of "likely voters" with an MOE of 4.5 which
looks about right for such a small poll.

As the months go by, I am watching polls such as these (but hopefully larger) to assess electability of our candidates. Done right, polls are extremely valuable, at least in my thinking.

26. There is no way in this dimension, or any other for that matter, that HRC wins TX.
It would be easier for RuPaul to carry TX than her...

3. Al Gore should have won Tennessee, and would have,
if he'd used the popularity of Bill in this state. Let's face it, if you've ever been to see Bill in person, he's a rock star. If Lazy Fred gets the nomination, and Bill campaigns in Tennessee FOR Hill, not necessarily WITH her, she'll wipe Fred out.

8. No - you have no concept of Tennessee.
Sorry. Fred will wipe out Hillary in Tennessee with or without Bill.

7. Bullshit.
I live in Tennessee. Hillary would lose this state soundly.

Again, they're polling people who either don't exist or don't pay attention.

I know DEMOCRATS who won't vote for her in the general election and it's not because they're "liberal" - quite the opposite - they think she's a "man-hating bitch," to quote them exactly.

BTW, I'll hold my nose and vote for her in the general election, but it won't do any good.

As someone brought up in a single parent household they can vote Rethuglican and disappear...

25. Are these polls only among Democrats? If so, you can't really predict
too much in the General Election. I don't know how many Independents there are in TN, but I would think they'll play a big role in the 08 election pretty much everywhere. What I also don't know is the overall strength of the Republican voters in the state.

24. I don't think the South will embrace...
a pair of northeast liberals like Rudy Giuliani or Willard Romney, either... but if the general election is between Hillary-Rudy or Hillary-Willard, they'll have to hold their noses and pick somebody.
