Cindy Sheehan seeking star power in campaign

Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan is making celebrity endorsements a key facet of her long-shot bid to defeat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) next year.

In a recent interview with The Hill, Sheehan said she has been endorsed by actress Roseanne Barr, country crooner Willie Nelson and Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello.

Sheehan added that White House hopeful Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) and former Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.) are also backing her.

“Celebrities bring a certain kind of — good or bad, it seems like our lives are centered around TV and movies — I think it does bring credibility,” Sheehan said.

Spokesmen for Barr and Morello did not return phone calls seeking comment. Kucinich praised Sheehan, but declined to confirm that he is formally backing her.

Bruce Cain, a political science professor at the University of California Berkeley and the director of the D.C.-based Institute of Governmental Studies, said Sheehan’s chances of beating Pelosi are “slim to none.”

1. Kucinich is backing an independent against the Speaker of the House?
Nope. Keep reading.

Kucinich praised Sheehan, but declined to confirm that he is formally backing her.

“I like Cindy,” Kucinich said. “She has been a very important spokesperson in challenging the war. She and I marched together against the war.”

He said he doesn’t comment on races waged against incumbents as a “matter of policy.”

2. That's no better...
He won't won't endorse his own speaker against an independent candidate?

4. I can live with that.
But any elected Democrat that endorses an Independent over a Democrat can kiss my ass.

3. Does she even live in the district?
Does she even know what the district is that she seeks to represent?

5. The article said she's looking for a house
to buy in the district. And I know its not nice, but I couldn't help but be amused that two of the people she claimed are supporting her wouldn't return calls, and that Kucinich is not, in fact, endorsing her.

8. Either amusing or sad,
I don't know which is more appropriate. Doesn't she think people will check these things out?

6. Actually, you don't have to live in a Congressional District to run it in
- it just plays better with the voters if you do.

I wish Cindy was running agains Pelosi in the Democratic primary. I don't think she'd beat Pelosi, but I think she might do well enough that it would serve as a wake up call and not divide the vote in the general election.

9. No mother ever deserved more of a rest than this one. But her
mission is not accomplished. So she keeps on with her focus. Bring accountability to our government, and bring them home.....

15. Here's the article from OpEdNews on Sheehan

Cindy Sheehan, in a statement published online at OpEdNews.com this evening, announced that she had deliberately avoided her scheduled court appearance in Washington, D.C. today for her arrest outside a House committee hearing room on September 10. A bench warrant for her arrest was issued by a Washington, D.C. Superior Court judge around noon today after she failed to appear for an 8:30 a.m. hearing.

Sheehan's spokeswoman, Tiffany Burns, had earlier explained Sheehan's absence from court today as a mix up that would be rectified by Sheehan's lawyer.

Sheehan, who is running for Congress against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on an anti-American platform, issued this statement on her missed day in court:

I was supposed to be in court today in Washington, DC for my last arrest. I didn’t go because I am not under allegiance and repudiate the fascists that run our government and the enforcers who are doing their best Nazi-job of “following orders” in oppressing our rights as Americans.

Why are they beating up a Reverend who served in the Air Force, and honorably left after the illegal and immoral invasion of Iraq, for wanting to attend a hearing in Congress?

Why are they arresting a Gold Star Mother for exercising the very freedoms for which George Bush freakishly says her son died?

Why are my daughter and assistant under indictment for Contempt of Congress when BushCo have steadily refused to testify before committees under oath, or any other way? As a matter of fact, Betray-Us wasn’t even put under oath that day in the House.

Sheehan went on to question why the antiwar movement hasn't done more to "over throw this fascism right now?"

-_-

Forget about taking a rest. Get her committed to the nearest sanitarium ASAP.

And what's the punishment for skipping a court date? A month's worth of jail? Her explanation will play well to the choir, but for the rest of us, it only proves how batshit insane she is.

16. Let's look at her list of has-beens and formerly famous...
Edited on Thu Sep-27-07 11:14 PM by Aya Reiko
Or perhaps "past their peak of fame" is a better descriptor... At best, I'd class these people as C-list.

Roseanne Barr - Residence: El Segundo, California. (SW of LA, Nowhere near Pelosi's district)
Tom Morello - Residence: LA. (Again, nowhere near Pelosi's district)
Willie Nelson - Residence: Austin, TX (Even further from Pelosi's district)

I would find it rather amusing if any of these people came out and said they didn't endorse Sheehan and she's full of shit. And considering none of these three has announced their endorsement themselves, I wouldn't be surprised if Cindy made that part up hoping they didn't notice.

18. She needs a star writer pronto.
Her missives are cringe-worthy in that I'm in the 7th grade now I know everything kind of way.
