I know, Iknow. I am beating a dead horse. This comment is just a reminder about the mind set of G W Bush. This guy is obsessed with steadfastness, in himself and others. He respects people who are 100% steadfast more than he respects people who are 100% right. He apparently believes that if a leader refuses to yield, eventually his opposition will collapse. Figuratively speaking, Bush never blinks, and he doesn't respect those who do. And he doesn't care about the cost (in human lives, money, political capital or anything else). Costs can be made up later, in his view. If something is important enough to fight for, fight for it until hell freezes over.
I bring this point up again because if we are going to oppose Bush, we have to remember who we are dealing with. No clever political strategy will force this guy's hand, as some suggested this past spring. He isn't going to blink unless confronted with circumstances that absolutely require it.
In order to oppose him, we either need to adopt this view ourselves, or accept defeat and move on.
