Why Hillary is ahead in the Polls.
There are three primary reasons (no pun intended).

1) Democratic voters feel she has the most experience and would be ready to govern from day one. It's true she was a team player, along with Bill Clinton, in the Clinton White House. She knows the ins and outs of how the Presidency works on a day to day basis, and how to be an effective President. She would have very little of a "learning curve" from her first day in office. This is especially important in given current international events, and events we cannot foresee. Also, she has many connections from the Bill Clinton Presidency and would be able to bring in an effective team right away. A team that already in many cases will have had experience working together successfully. And, she knows many prominent world leaders. She would be respected as a world leader right away. The international community has good memories of the Clinton years.

2) Democratic voters feel she is best equipped to mount a winning campaign capable of defeating the Republican nominee. They have concluded this based on the hard evidence of years she has spent fending off attacks from the right. She's an experienced politician, and of all the nominees, least likely to make a serious error leading to a loss in November.

3) Folks just plain like her. They respect her tenacity and ability to gain the respect of Republicans, as she has done in her home state of New York. Democratc voters feel she is the candidate most able to work with the Congress to achieve Democratic legislative goals, such as Health Care reform. She has the experience, and she has the know-how.

She'll be a great President

1. No, those are the reasons you have to support her.
Many of us feel Obama or Edwards is all of that you think about her and more.

And by the way, Obama will be a great president starting Jan 09. In fact, he might be better than Bill Clinton.

77. No, try again.
The picture is a SYMBOL of the campaign. It shows a very small group of people trying to look bigger with large signage to cover up the fact that there aren't that many people.

Clinton's campaign is not made up of a large number of dedicated grass roots followers, but a political machine of paid campaign workers attempting to make it look bigger than it is.

The picture (whether those few people are paid or not) shows it perfectly.

The MSM is the tail that wags the dog. The real truth is far from what you see reported - and there are corporate shills that will say anything to get her elected. But ya see, it's not about Hillary --- just follow the money.

There are so many reason's your assumptions are wrong; but rather than an essay from me - just search the DU's archives for the past week. More than enough there...

Though I'll give you one reason that sums it up pretty damn good. She voted for the Kyle-Lieberman Amendment.

36. No need for a hat, but maybe you need glasses?
Just one example of many....

SiCKO: Hillary Clinton became the second largest recipient in the Senate of health care industry contributions.

"As she runs for re-election to the Senate from New York this year and lays the groundwork for a possible presidential bid in 2008, Mrs. Clinton is receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from doctors, hospitals, drug manufacturers and insurers. Nationwide, she is the No. 2 recipient of donations from the industry, trailing only Senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, a member of the Republican leadership." Raymond Hernandez and Robert Pear, "Once an Enemy, Health Industry Warms to Clinton," New York Times, July 12, 2006.

That just floored me. I haven't made up my mind yet, except that in the primary, I will not, under any circumstance, vote for Hillary. And that is based on listening to her and only her.

Momentum, coupled with the knowledge of her financial position and the implicit belief that she will be the nominee.

She is not my favorite candidate, but I'll vote for any Democrat against any Republican at this point.

Another question I keep asking myself is, "Why is Kucinich 'unelectable'?"

Unless Gore jumps in, my favorite is probably Biden.

33. yay! another Biden supporter! It's growing, folks...
as for why Hillary is the nominee, Biden said it best:

Name recognition buys press, press, gets money, money gets press... and over, and over, and over....

tail wagging the dog. I also notice the original post had almost no policy remarks in it. As usual.

I've liked Biden since I was in college during the '84/'85 presidential season. He's just so seasoned, intelligent, and he has experienced so much suffering and has come through it. He's very inspiring to me.

40. If Hillary is proud that 46% of the country hates her
then she's really disturbed. Check the Rassmussen polls. The only Sure Thing in the general election is John Edwards.

She needs to stick with NYC and leave the rest of the country alone.

50. You really should check your facts.
For the seven days ending September 23, 2007, Hillary Clinton earns 39% of the vote. Barack Obama is second at 25% followed by John Edwards at 14%. New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson and Delaware Senator Joe Biden top the second-tier candidates at 4% followed by Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich at 2%. Connecticut Senator Chris Dodd and former Alaska Senator Mike Gravel each register 1% support. Ten percent (10%) of Likely Democratic Primary Voters are undecided (review history of weekly results).

Where were the Democrats for Bill Clinton in 1998? She goes to the corporatist side, like he did, and the Democrats will not defend her when things go south, just like they didn't defend Bill Clinton. Tick tock.

But from that point on, if she turns out to be a poser and reveals herself to be a corporatist, my guess is that I won't be alone on this newsgroup in attacking her policies. She won't have a honeymoon. That much is predictable.

64. Oops. You left out money and the fact that she's married to Bill
And I have to take issue with #3. Only her supporters just plain like her. Beyond that, people just plain don't like her. I keep getting various making-fun-of-Hillary emails from a good ol' boy friend of my, a retired machanic, and also an uncle and aunt from Cincinnati. I haven't gotten one such email about any other candidate. I've gotten at least 5 about Hillary.

Right now there is no Republican candidate setting the world on fire. It's a golden opportunity for Democrats IF they choose the right candidate. If Hillary is made the candidate, we're throwing that advantage away because independents and moderate Republicans disillusioned with the Republican Party will not vote for Hillary.

Americans want someone they feel comfortable with. Hillary just can't successfully get past that hurdle, no matter how often she pulls out that canned laughter in public. Americans want someone gifted, but with their feet on the ground. That's not Hillary, no matter how much money she's got to shape her image.

Dodd, Biden or Kucinich have much more political and legislative experience. Richardson has been on the razors edge of foreign policy.

Best equipped to mount a campaign? Do we really want yet another phony polarizing round over non-issues, while the real issues go ignored.

I like her. But what she represents is the opposite of what this country needs at this point in its history.
