Look at those numbers. Cheer up! We outnumber repubs by almost 20 million!

The only problem is the 42 million swing voters, but we are covered there because they tend to lean towards Democrats! They tend to go for centrist-types so we have to give the frontrunners some leeway to pull rethug-like stunts every now and then. We must remember that we share this great democratic party with many other groups who may not be as liberal as us. Our time will come when voters are ready, and not a moment sooner (assuming this country lasts as long as its European counterparts).

The democratic base comprises two widely diverging demographics. On one hand, there are those in the working class, who are commonly conservative on social issues. On the other hand, it includes well-educated and relatively affluent liberals.

2. They don't want GOP lite
and they don't like the Bush administration or the GOP. So why are Dems in the House and Senate slaves to the GOP agenda? Why do they quiver in fear of holding Cheney and Bush accountable?

3. Keep tellin' 'em.
We don't have to give a damn what Republicans think or what Republicans want. We don't even have to care much about the Independents if you think about it. Stop buying the media bullshit that the parties are equal. They aren't. THAT'S WHY THEY HAVE TO CHEAT.

BTW, the Republicans aren't running their best, they're running their dregs. None of their sane people wants to touch this election.

72 million Dem

55 million Rep

42 million Ind

So WE need 13 million independents to win. THEY need 30 million independents to win.

8. My guess: they want Inspiration.
They want somebody who can lift up their saddened hearts enough that they'll want to get off their butts and go vote for him.

Yeah, him. Clinton providing a laugh that's an eerie imitation of Roseanne isn't "inspiration."

They want some vision that things can be made better - the war, the economy, the ecology, their lives.

And I also think one thing - debate it if you will. They want to be called to service. The hallmark of the Bush years has been the elimination of personal contribution. "Don't worry about the war. Go out and shop and take vacations. We'll do the rest." Well, they did a "heckuva job," didn't they?

This point was made obliquely by Ken Burns when Bill Maher interviewed him on Real Time. Unlike the World War II era, where Americans were encouraged - even coerced - into contributing to the war effort, nobody has asked anything of us - except our taxes, our lives and our silence.

If one candidate - and it likely won't be a Republican - could get up and say "There's a big job ahead, and all of us will have to help, but it'll make America truly great again" he'd get my vote, and I believe the independent vote too.
