GOP smear tactics wearing the public thin
Wiley says: You can't put a spine on a jellyfish...

The reason we see so many weak GOP candidates running for president.

What I figure is that the GOP slime/smear machine had an advantage during the Reagan years which carried over to the early Bush 43 presidency: Their failure wasn't universally understood. So people gave them the benefit of the doubt.

In former years the GOP could get away with smear attacks on actual war heroes like John Kerry. The public didn't know any better.

You always have the retarded 19% hard core GOP base who would support Bush even if he sent the U.S. forces to attack Canada. So the republican campaign goal was to appease these nut cases and still extend a hand over to the uncommitted voter with slogans and sound bites. Things like "tax and spend", "support our troops" "compassionate conservatism" and other meaningless phrases the gullible public relates to but really have no substance.

However the GOP won't get away with that shit anymore because the thinking general public is fed up with their obscene lying. That's even without counting clowns David Vitter, Bob Allen, Mark Foley and Larry Craig.

The GOP has become like that fair weather friend who only comes around your door when he wants to borrow your money. In this case your vote. Then he squanders your donation and comes back around again every four years asking for more support.

That campaign technique has worn itself thin. Don't expect many republican victories in November '08.

2. I hope you are right.
The technique has certainly worn thin with me. Although, it never had much credibility here in the first place.

5. No one is buying the shit they're shoveling.
You can fool 29% of the people all the time. And they're going to run a third party Cuckoo Christian candidate.
