Update from Edwards HQ: 10 hrs. left!

At headquarters in Chapel Hill, the campaign team is working around the clock to reach our goal of $1 million online by midnight tonight. (You can give online until midnight tonight in YOUR local time zone.)

Ten hours left. This is it—there's no "later" this time. We're so close to hitting our goal, and your contribution—no matter how big or small—could be the one that puts us over the top. Please give what you can:

Ten days ago, we put our online campaign in your hands. We did the math, and told you that to stay on target we needed to raise $1 million online by midnight tonight. None of us knew if that was possible. We knew that you had come through for us before—could we count on you again?

Today, as I write this, we only have $79,212 to go. We can do it.

Thousands of you have helped put us closer to hitting our target. Now, we are counting on you to take the final step and put us across the finish line before midnight in your local time zone.

We're on a path to victory—but we need your support today to get there. Your contribution—up to $250 for the primary—can be matched through public financing. By choosing public financing, John is rejecting business as usual in Washington and the power of the lobbyists and special interests. Instead, he is putting his faith in grassroots supporters like you.

An opinion poll out just yesterday shows that, in a head-to-head contest with Rudy Giuliani, John Edwards wins handily, 50% to 41%. The same poll shows John with a ten-point lead over Fred Thompson, 49% to 39%.

If we give the American people a choice between a Democratic candidate who wants to get the money out of the corrupt system and a Republican drowning in buckets of special interests cash, the Democratic candidate wins, overwhelmingly.

John Edwards is that candidate.

That's why, with matching funds for low-dollar contributions, your support in the next ten hours means more than ever.

Take a moment to remember why you want John Edwards in this race—and in the White House. Is it someone you know who needs health care? A relative serving in Iraq? Children who don't deserve to inherit a world damaged by global warming?

Whatever your reason, your contribution, no matter how big or small, can make all the difference.

Please give whatever you can:

Thank you for all you do.

1. 10 hours left? Or what? He'll quit?
Or is this like the 'going out of business' sign that's been on the RV dealership up the road for the last two years?

3. He Doesn't Need My Money
he's focused on Iowa where ideas count, money doesn't. The four approved early states are where voters will judge the candidates based on quality, not depth of war chest. He's a candidate of ideas, not money. Thus, he doesn't need my contribution. I've donated it to a local candidate (State House race) instead.

5. I'd disagree.
Yes, he is focused on Iowa, and yes, he is the candidate of ideas. But we need to do all we can to support him anyway. A poor showing in the 3rd quarter fundraising is, unfortunately, damaging to public opinion. I'd just urge you to give anything you can to help JE. That is, if you are a JE supporter, something that just occured to me might not be so. Supporter or not, i'd still urge you to give anything you can.

9. I WAS A Supporter
Honestly, I was.

Since I have not donated to DU lately, I cannot search for prior posts in support of him. I still think he is the best qualified of all the candidates to serve as president.

I like his universal healthcare plan. Why is it so hard for people in this country to accept healthcare as a basic right of citizenship? Only I agree with him that a single payer system is not the way to go right now - that we must work with and improve our existing framework.

I like the way he talks about poverty, even though it seems a thankless pursuit. He has a genuine interest in helping the lower and middle class, which are rapidly being outpaced by the wealthy.

So, I do like John Edwards. I do hope he is our nominee and our president. But I have effectively been shut out of the primary process by the DNC, the Florida Democratic party, my state legislature and finally, the candidates. At no point did any of them consider the voters of Florida who had nothing to do with stupid decisions made by others. Bitter, party of four million.

11. Understood.
Must be rough being slapped around and used as pawns by your state party, legislature, and DNC.

4. Tried to donate but...
I tried to donate just now. The contribution page insisted on an email (okay, I've got a throw away that I use for political sites) and a phone number. I'm not going to give my phone number. They can look it up if they want. The contribution page wouldn't take my money without that.

I left a message to this effect on their contact us page. Unfortunately, no money from me today.

7. Did you try the Act Blue page?

Some of it (identity, address, etc..) is election law stuff to keep dishonest people with money from hiding their giving.

8. Good idea to dedicate an email address to politics
Make's life so much simpler for us political junkies. As for the phone number, I'm pretty sure I've left that blank and it went through. Try that.

I'm an advocate of online donations that have a little box you can check....

< >do not send me email, snailmail or call my house or you'll never see another red cent from me.

Plus it would probably save the candidates money?

12. The FEC needs to verify who you are
with your Name, Occupation, etc. etc. so that fake people cannot donate more than the maximum
