Obama failing to dent Clinton support
Published: Oct. 2, 2007 at 8:55 AM
snip
NEW YORK, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- U.S. presidential hopeful Barack Obama has raised prodigious amounts of money but has yet to hurt support for rival Hillary Clinton, USA Today reported.
snip

Obama continues, as he has since February, to trail Clinton, a U.S. senator from New York, by about 20 percentage points in USA Today/Gallup Polls.

Obama's strategists dismiss national polls as irrelevant and insist he will break to the front by the time the primaries begin nearly next year.

1. National polls ARE irrelevant
The only people that push them are frontrunners and their supporters for the obvious reasons...everyone else knows that National polls are like jello. If Clinton doesn't start off strong in the early primaries, you'll see that 20% lead drop faster than a fly at a BBQ.

5. You mean all the pundits trashing Hillary and promoting Obama are wrong?
Hard to believe Obama had such a surge in Iowa then..

9. So, when did Gephardt lead by 20+ for months at a time? When did he lead in early primary states?

3. unfortunately
both HRC and obama have supporters who, are blindly following their candidates. unwilling to acknowledge that they both are polarizing. I will vote the straight Democratic ticket. I fear it will be for naught if either HRC, Obama, or Edwards are the nominee.

10. They are correct for doing so. Also the political analyst states the same. It does not matter
about National polls, it matters state by state.

18. Ok... let's look at the chart...

Places where HRC does not lead:

We have NM, Richardson's home state, in an old poll.
And IL, Obama's home state, in an old poll.
Then there's the splits in ID and OK, both old polls.

15. They certainly were irrelevant for Kerry in the primaries
I would think it's bad to be the front runner so early. How often is that person the one who wins?

21. Obama isn't making the sale
He comes off as too inexperienced and shaky on important issues, people don't want a weak leader like Obama has shown himself to be.

Obama as the "me too" candidate (policy wise) to Hillary isn't compelling enough for people to choose him instead of Hillary.
