State Sen. Kathy Sgambati said one of her main reasons for supporting Sen. Hillary Clinton's candidacy for president is her unwavering support for universal health care — highlighted by Clinton's new television ad in New Hampshire that vocalizes her support for health care for children and emergency workers whose health was harmed by their efforts at Ground Zero.
"Clinton's dedication is not a passing campaign issue," said Sgambati in a telephone news conference Thursday, noting Clinton's efforts to reform health care when she was first lady and her efforts as one of the first senators to recognize the potential health fallout for emergency workers responding to 9/11.
With Sgambati was Marvin Bethea, a permanently disabled paramedic who spoke about Clinton's continued support for him and his comrades. "She's trying to fight for us," said Bethea.
Sgambati said she is impressed by Clinton's new ad because it emphasizes her commitment to New Hampshire's first-in-the-nation primary and reflects her response to what she has heard from New Hampshire voters; it spotlights her 35-year fight for America's children and families, and it sharply distinguishes her from President George W. Bush and his recent veto of the bill that would change eligibility for the Children's Health Insurance Program.
