The Kentucky AFL-CIO says it will have hundreds of union members on the streets Saturday in communities across the state, including Covington, for a campaign blitz on behalf of Democrats.

In NKY Covington Fire Fighters from the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 38 will participate. About 60 union members are expected to work the city's ineighborhoods, said Rachele Hunnekens, an AFL-CIO spokeswoman.

"Regardless of where working people live, the same issues are on their minds in advance of this election," state AFL-CIO president Bill Londrigan said in a statement.

"We're going to make sure rural voters have access to the same information as other voters – where the candidates stand on assuring access to quality health care, keeping good jobs in Kentucky, and a secure retirement."

The AFL-CIO has endorsed these Democrats running for statewide office: Steve Beshear, governor; Dan Mongiardo, lieutenant governor; Crit Luallen, auditor; Jack Conway, attorney general; Todd Hollenbach, treasurer; and Bruce Hendrickson, secretary of state.
