Let's get a catalog of NECESSARY social changes together, shall we?

I think a good idea is to sit down and come up with a list of things that absolutely must be instituted by the new President, whoever it winds up being. Once that's done, publish it as a little pamphlet, spread it around, maybe hold debates specifically on it. The candidates who are against the necessary provisions -- they're the ones we shouldn't be voting for. Make sure they know it.

A minimum wage that's enough to live on, after taxes. Which means that even at the lowest-paying full-time jobs, you won't have to take a second job just to make ends meet, and even part-time workers will make enough for rent and food if they can put in 20 hours a week somewhere.

Rough guidelines: You should be able to pay a month's rent in a reasonably safe area with one week's wages, a month's food with the next week's (2 weeks, if you have a kid), and then the money from the final 1-2 weeks of the month's wages should be pretty much usable however you like. Save it, spend it, use it on medical procedures if necessary, etc...

Single-payer health-care, including dental coverage. No ifs, ands, or buts.

***
Withdraw from Iraq. It's over. The Republicans fucked it up with their greed and incompetence. Take the Iraqis who've supported us along, so they're not murdered by death squads.
***

Perform a complete audit of EVERY company working with the Department of Defense, along with the files of the Department itself.

When there are cases of contractor fraud, kickbacks on a large scale, or general corruption (some have already cropped up), seize all of the company's assets, financial and physical, and put those assets toward repaying the national debt.

Additionally, seize 90% of the assets of the CEO and CFO (it would be impossible for subordinates to hide contractor fraud on that scale from those offices, unless I'm mistaken), along with the assets of any other higher-ups who can be proven guilty. The guilty parties get to keep one (modest) house and two (modest) cars, and that's it. In cases where contractor fraud or kickbacks can be traced to a soldier's death, the guilty parties can be charged with murder in the first degree.

Catch Osama bin Laden. If Bush hadn't called off our Special Forces guys in 2001, and let the fucking Pakistanis try to do it and fuck it up, that murdering son-of-a-bitch would already be caught. We nearly had him before, let's do again...and do it RIGHT.
***

***
Raise taxes on gross incomes over $5,000,000 a year to 50% annually.
***

***
Increase workplace safety standards.
***

***
Devote a sizable proportion of government funds to protect the environment, here and around the world.
***

***
Increase foreign aid.
***

And that's it, so far. What am I missing? I know I'm missing something.

6. Not to nitpick
But your wages section doesn't include a few basics: electric, gas, car payments, insurance, cable, telephone, etc.

And some more "for starters"
Un-Patriot Act us
Investigate and send war criminals to The Hague
