Obama wins the flag pin argument: 7 of the 9 Rep. candidates didn't wear one today
Edited on Tue Oct-09-07 07:06 PM by Katzenkavalier
DEARBORN, Michigan (CNN) — Only two of the nine presidential candidates at today's Republican presidential debate wore flags on their lapels.

Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani both wore flag pins on their lapels while the remaining seven did not. They were: Sen. John McCain, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Sen. Sam Brownback, Rep. Duncan Hunter, Rep. Ron Paul, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Hucakbee, and Rep. Tom Tancredo.

Flag lapel pins became a campaign issue for Democratic candidate Barack Obama last week when he acknowledged to an interviewer that while he wore the lapel pins after 9/11, he no longer believes it’s appropriate. Obama told reporters that he has stopped wearing a flag lapel pin because he believes it has been a “substitute for true patriotism.”

4. Obama would have won the flag lapel
flap even if all the repukes wore them. Obama has the right meaning to go along with his not wearing it. It's like those damn car "Support The Troops" on yellow magnetics..they're a substitute for getting your big supportive ass to Iraq and really supporting the troops.

Before I gave up my car I had a blue mag ribbon that said PROTECT OUR TROOPS!

That was over 3 years ago..now it would say SUPPORT OUR TROOPS~BRING THEM HOME ALIVE!

11. And what @ the flag on the desk for Regis

Everyday since 911 - the flag is front and center our beautiful on ABC.

It must be Regis that is insisting that it remain there, IMO.

Has he ever mentioned it?

If the people that wear the pins were REAL Americans instead of sheep I could go along with it.

I'm with OBAMA on this one.

9. And this POS is a perfect example of why it shouldn't be an issue at all.
Thanks, zz, for the perspective.

14. One illusion down. How about knocking down others?
Like, for instance, the stupid yellow ribbons? The $1000-a-plate dinners, that are only held for corporate sponsors? (Much as I dislike Giuliani, the idea of an event that charged under $10 per person is a good one. He just chose the wrong numbers. I think Democrats could charge as much as $17.76 per head for a public outdoor rally, throwing in a hot dog and beans plate for that price.)

And get rid of the photo-ops that always sink Democrats. Remember Dukakis in the tank, Gore in the Elmer Fudd suit, Kerry in a sweater? Those are phony acts, and anyone above an IQ of 50 knows it. Let the candidates talk about what they'll do for hunters, farmers and the military, while dressed in their traditional business suits, and leave the costume dress-up to Dubya.

There's too much phoniness in politics. Obama offered a good start.

only after corporate media cabal decided to make it an issue.

And, evidently, cnn will continue to beat this dead horse.
