Name Removal from MI ballot: Will this be an issue in the General Election?
For the candidates have removed their names from the ballot for the MI primary, is there any potential problems in MI in the general election should they eventually become the nominee?

I don't see it as a big issue mind you but one of those nagging issues that gives the opposition a zinger to throw our candidates way.

Way say you DU?

1. In '04 Kerry carried Michigan by only ...
170,000 votes or so. Michigan could well flip because of this. Florida will be red again in '08.

The DNC is just shooting itself and us in the foot with nonsense.

2. What if the nom is HRC?
She opted to not back out. Will that affect the GE if she's the nom?

6. I don't know.
Maybe not, but some may see this as step #2 in the process, and Hillary supported step #1 by agreeing to not campaign there and in Florida. Some of us can hold a grudge a long time ... but I don't know if there are 170,000 of "us" in the state of Michigan. I doubt it though. :P

What I do know is that Obama and Edwards would now be in major trouble in the general election if either wins the nomination.

This election cycle sucks.

3. I have no bloody idea but suspect that Karl Rove had something to do with this.
In other words, I think it will ultimately hurt the Dems.

I just haven't figured out the angle yet.

Smells very fishy.

4. you need to learn about the sarcasm smilie, methinks
I certainly hope so, at least. Karl Rove? Sure. He figured out a way to get the Michigan House, which has a majority of Democrats and Dem. Governor Jennifer M. Granholm to support this so as to harm Democrats. Yup. Sure.

7. My deepest gut tells me that this mess in Michigan will play out in such a way that
it becomes the "October surprise"......only one year too early.

I worry. Worry is my middle name. And i concur with my fellow DU'ers that something smells rotten in Denmark.

This political process in the age of instant communication is like a slash and burn stealth marauder in the night........what is true in the morning, becomes fallacy by the evening.

Some times i just hate being a Democrat......and just want to scream at Mich and Fla by telling them "now is not the time to challenge the DNC"....... but then again....which DLC'er is blowing into the ear of those decision makers who have decided to charge the wall and smash the process....all the while.....making it hard on the candidates.

I will not Pooh-Pooh those who say this mess is not a conspiricy......

Just watch and before your very eyes......an imploding will occur.......and just see after the dust settles, who is left standing and you've got your answer.

8. It's only October. We can find a compromise before the primary.
There needs to be a joint press conference with the DNC and the Michigan Democratic Party with a peace plan.

9. Right now, it looks like Michigan pulled an "October surprise".....poli-speak for
Rove-like-tactics.

It matters not what the intention is/was with Michigan, all that matters is the preception.....and it ain't good.

The longer it hangs out there, the more people will tell fairy tales about "what the real story" is.....and then it becomes more about what the MSM will hawk, rather than the candidates.

The real losers (once again) are the voting public.

10. It's the right thing to do.
The leapfrogging of primary dates is bad for the process. I appreciate that the DNC is being heavy handed about this.
