US to Turkey: Stay out of Iraq

Uh oh:

Turkey and America's strategic partnership is at risk because of the tension growing between the Turkish army on the border of Iraq and the ~3,000 outlawed PKK Kurdish fighters said to be using the mountainous region as a base from which to strike inside Turkey...

2. In this case

I see it more as incompetence in handling the situation rather than our threatening them. We have no teeth -- both Turkey and Iraqi Kurdistan are our allies. If we side with either, all the enemies we've made will move in to make friends with the one we don't side with. A recipe for disaster. So, in a way, the US message is: work it out rather than fight. Just don't know what good it will do.

Turkey started shelling on of the few places in Iraq lacking widespread violence.
