Do you suppose George H.W. Bush (41)...deep down in his heart...knows what a complete and total butthole of a President his son is?

But there may be a sense of frustration on his part if Bush 1 were hoping his son would redeem him. Bush 1 was also a screw up who got voted out of office. Bush 1 was just a smarter and more sophisticated failure.

I'm pretty sure he realizes his son isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. It goes beyond a screwed up administration. His son has killed the republican party for at least a decade. That's got to sting him a bit.

... he knows that 43 is a total idiot, hated here and around the world. He's destroyed the GOP for many years to come (if they survive at all), and has shamed the Bush family name for all time.

Poppy is a smart man. Georgie may talk about his legacy and how his policies will be vindicated in retrospect, but Poppy knows exactly how history will treat his son's presidency - and it won't be pretty.

Somehow, I get great satisfaction out of knowing the shame that Poppy feels every day of his life.
