I don't want Al Gore to run
Edited on Wed Oct-10-07 04:30 PM by Yael
<flame proof suit on>

I think that without the constant barrage that is the Executive office, Al can do much more good (and further the ecological agenda) right where he is. Without all of the compromises, without having to be derailed over this issue or that issue -- he can focus on his first love and dedicate all of his energy and physical resources to it.

I also don't believe that he WANTS the job. Yes, I am sure that with all of the support, it is bound to be tempting, but he has been through this. 8 years in the WH and a blown (s)election is enough to knock the wind out of anyone's sails. He has indicated that he is done with politics and I can respect that. It is dirty work. I know I wouldn't want the job for any amount of money on earth.

I am sure that I am going to catch a lot of grief for this, but I had to say it. Don't get me wrong -- I like him and hold him in VERY high esteem. I just don't think that his mind nor his heart is in it, and this game is chess with marbles.

If he wants to rest on his works and spend time with his family while educating the world establishment about global climate changes, we should embrace that and not put on the man something that isn't in his heart to deal with.

Fire away!

1. I want him to run...
but I'll refrain from asking that you be added to the "Worst Person in the World" poll. Everyone, even on DU, is entitles to their opinion.

2. So? Millions of us do.

Your entitled to your opinion.

We are entitled to ours.

And, I disagree that Al will be able to do more outside of office then in. It is a choice between leading the change and trying to influence the change from the outside. The oval office is the most effective place for him to channel his energies. I will understand, if he chooses not to run. I don't think he will find a better position to institute the change he is working for....

RUN AL RUN

to protect our environment will be in the hands of others who may not think it is important or they may get their money from corporates who want to stop environment protections. aka : little lord pissy pants..or corporate Hillary.

who of any of the running candidates has spoken loudly for changes needed for the environment???????

4. I want him to run
because I do truly admire him as a great statesman.

But I respect that he is a "recovering politician."

And really, I do believe he will be able to continue to inspire and effect change much better outside of office.

5. I can understand your position.
Your post was a good one, however, I respectfully disagree because I'm so afraid what the alternative leadership will do to further damage our planet. Time is of the essence!

6. I agree with you Yael!
I think a Nobel Prize might make the pressure to run almost unbearable, but I'm in fundamental agreement with your points and argument. Frankly, I think he's greatly relieved to be an elder statesman above the political fray.

Yes, everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. But in this particular instance only one opinion truly matters: Al Gore's.

7. I absolutely agree
He in a unique position to do an enormous amount of good. Planet saving good. And we have several good nominees that are capable of getting our government back on track.

I've been posting this a while and I stand by it. I do support whatever he decides to do though.

8. He would have so much more power to do all those things...
Holding the office to which he is the rightful heir.

9. IF he does run, how will you proceed?
Will you vote for him in the primaries? If he's the Dem candidate, will you vote for him?

10. It would depend on his positions on the issues in the primaries
But in the GE, he would have my vote as quickly as the polls open.
