1. If You Mean that Irrational Partisanship
prevented voters from hearing what the candidates were actually saying, then yes -- Gore's credentials, policies, and character set him apart by a mile.

2. No, if however GOP voters 'thought' instead of
'reacted to false accusations', then Gore would have won.

3. The Gore of 2000 is NOT the Gore of 2007 - he found his mojo, and has taken on the
policies of the Bush administration in well received speeches.

The election of 2000 was so close that it was easily stolen........the Gore of today, would have won handily....so much so....that it could not have been stolen.

Same problem with Kerry in 04. Didn't win by large enough of a margin, so it was stolen.

So my analysis does not answer you OP.....but I think there are always ways to say "Democrats are hated so much by Republicans"

The best way to counter that meme, is to put up a candidate that will win decisively.

That is why I will vote for John Edwards in the primary.....and he is a good candidate to boot !!!

4. If people only heard
about the candidates from the campaign ads and debates, Gore would have won big to landslide. The underlying advantage was the Clinton prosperity- minus the scandal. The MSM worked tirelessly- as it does now- for the GOP with all the lies told in unison it took and all the damaging commentary and opinion to color people's perceptions. Why else are even incredibly superior Dems always on the defensive and practically miracle winners while any sludge has momentum with an R stamped on it. In Clinton's second run the propaganda would not work so they retreated in order but never with much positive to say.

The GOP would still have cheated and ranted. And would have lost anyway like Bob Dole. But then, Junior NEVER would have run without the full advantages of a broadly dishonest campaign like Dad's and Reagan's, because he was on face a midget in comparison even to them.

So the question is impossible because Junior never would have run much less taken the risks he has without full media support and full dependence on the MSM by both the mainstream population and the Dems themselves. The Bushes are born dictators, not leaders. Look at the thugs they need to rely upon.

5. Gore Messed Up In The Debates
Or maybe the MSM would have crucified him over something else...

If Gore would have been satisfied in just exposing Bush* as the buffoon he was and is and not mocked him he would have been fine... But "sighing" at Bush made him look arrogant and condescending and nobody likes to be condescended to...
