Rice worried by Putin's (Bush's?) broad powers
WASHINGTON DC MOSCOW - The US Russian government under George Bush Vladimir Putin has amassed so much central authority that the power-grab may undermine Washington's Moscow's commitment to democracy, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Saturday.

In any country, if you don't have countervailing institutions, the power of any one president is problematic for democratic development," Rice told reporters after meeting with human-rights activists.

"I think there is too much concentration of power in the White House Kremlin. I have told the Americans Russians that. Everybody has doubts about the full independence of the judiciary. There are clearly questions about the independence of the electronic media and there are, I think, questions about the strength of the Congress Duma," said Rice, referring to the US legislature Russian parliament.

*snip*

The State Department frequently has criticized what Washington regards as creeping authoritarianism among Bush Putin and other top US Russian leaders.

Its most recent human-rights report on the US Russia notes continuing centralization of power in the White House Kremlin, a compliant legislature, political pressure on the judiciary, intolerance of ethnic minorities, corruption and selectivity in enforcement of the law, and media restrictions and self-censorship.

12. I think not so much partisan as foolish.....her upbringing
has fooled her into believing that she is one of the elitest Neocons....she like Colin Powell will find that she will be blamed for much of the chaos even though she really didn't have the power....

Her history....
Her father a businessman thought that Martin Luther King was a trouble maker and should be arrested....she was also a friend of one of the girls that was killed in the church bombing in the 60's....she doesn't really talk much about it...because I don't think she gets what a pivotal moment in history that bombing was..

5. The Stepford Wife
Edited on Sun Oct-14-07 01:08 AM by Baby Snooks
She reminds me of a Stepford Wife. She smiles, she waves, she makes the hubby happy. Life is good. Until she short-circuits. Condi has short-circuited finally.

That an editor at the NY Times would edit this as you have. In a just world, one of them would.

7. This has been going on since Bushler stole America in 2000
Google up ANY and I mean ANY article on Putin since Bushler's Rise, and you will find that each and every one is fully interchangable as well as insanely laughable.

Like listening to the Nazis criticize the Stalinists, which is in so many ways what Sleezy Ribbentrop is doing here.
