5. the old generation needs to step down and let the new generation take over
it's all good and nice that a bunch of people who are or will be retired and dead soon want to push candidates on me and my generation (i'm 22) that don't do anything to solve America's problems in the long term, and don't do anything but make people feel better about themselves, and actually may make it harder for my generation to make any sort of meaningful progress in the future.

It's a new world, we are a new breed of Americans, and we need new leadership and new ideas.

Sorry old folks, it is not your world anymore, it is mine.

We need Obama.

8. I'm 21 and I totally agree with you.
It's like the Baby Boomers are still stuck in the 70s. IMO the main reason we are stuck in Iraq and the majority does not support an immediate pullout is that conservative and moderate Baby Boomers are still ticked off about "losing Vietnam" and thus don't want to do anything that smacks of "admitting defeat." Then you have the Baby Boomers that don't understand that things like Jena are more the exception and not the rule now days and thus screeds about the US as an "inherently racist society" are very much out of date and are another example of Boomers being stuck in the 70s.

Also, IMO, Boomers calling Obama "inexperienced" is just another example of them continuing to bash and belittle Generation X.

17. they all want to bring us back to the 90s...i don't WANT to go back in time, we need to move forward
yes, the 90's were a fairly good time for most Americans. sticking our heads in the sand and pulling the lever on the flux capacitor to pretend like these past few years of misery never happened is not going to solve anything. it is only going to make us complacent again. we need serious, drastic change and we need it from somebody with a wildly different approach and mindset.

electing somebody who is (and has been for years) right in the thick of the washington morass is not going to change a damn thing. the only thing that will change is the party of the commander in chief.

dick cheney has been in government for 40 years and look what all of his "experience" got us.

i don't want somebody who "knows how to take the fight to the republicans." i don't want somebody that's all about "winning." i want somebody who is all about leading, and fixing the gaping holes left behind by decades of hyper-partisanship.

obama has as much experience as Lincoln did when he ran for president. there are certain things that are more important than "experience," the "it" factor if you will, and Obama has it.

though i assume i'm just preaching to the choir on this one...it still felt nice to rant for a minute

the boomer generation is forgetting how they were treated by their elders in the 60's, and now they're doing the same thing to us. it's my country now, and my country needs Obama.

19. Exactly. IMO "experience" is begining to seem more and more like meaning...
...being corrupted by lobbyists, special interest groups, and getting stuck navigating through the miles and miles of process and red tape The Boomers seem to be more concerned about bickering over principles and moral imperatives then getting things done and the Korean War Generation folks in the Democratic Congressional leadership seem more concerned with endless process and red tape then with doing anything with serious substance.

25. well hey, anyone along for the ride is okay by me

and yes obama isn't my generation, but i think he's a dramatic shift from the boomers and older generations - Gen X has more in common with my peers and I than they do with the Boomers.

23. I'm totally there
I wish my work was more settled; because of the nature of things ( work in the securitized Mortgage and collateral finance, I'm constantly being called away to put out fires. Things are just nuts.

So I missed our canvass event yesterday but hope to make up for it. :hi:
