David Yepsen Predicts Biden Will Be In Iowa’s Top Three
David Yepsen Predicts Biden Will Be In Iowa’s Top Three
October 14th, 2007 by Erin Medlicott
Oct. 14: This morning on NBC’s “The Chris Matthews Show,” during the “Tell Me Something I Don’t Know” portion, panel member David Yepsen said “I think Joe Biden will compete for third in Iowa,” knocking John Edwards out of the Top Three.

David Yepsen is a highly respected newsman and chief political correspondent for The Des Moines Register.

Will post video and transcript as soon as I get it.

:woohoo:

2. This was the same broadcast where that guy said Gore would endorse Obama
It was the 'tell me something I don't know' part of the show.

3. I can only HOPE that is true! I intend to vote for Joe, although here
in Ga. I could vote for my dog and it would matter just as much.

5. Depending on how he does in IA, NH and SC, more people may start
actually considering him and it could snowball from there. Please God!

You and your dog will do what's best when the time comes!

7. Hey, my dog would do a better job as Prez than the current occupant!
My dog "Napoleon" doesn't talk, doesn't write, and doesn't fight with anyone. If we could have Shrub stop doing those 3 things, we'd be FAR ahead of where we are now!

8. I think that sounds to me more like corporate influenced "wishful thinking"...
Any hard data that he has to support the notion that the guy that's been leading many of the polls in Iowa would slip to fourth or worse? Does he really read the National Enquirer that much and project that on to other people?

9. If corporate influences were wishing for Biden
It would be reflected in corporate donations.

15. Well, I think most of the people weren't happy either. I wonder who was?
I think a more relevant graph would be what proportion of his donations for his regular senate campaigns come from banks vs. other senators campaigns. I think this just reflects the overall percentage of what each of the candidates are getting in general for the presidential campaign. It doesn't say a lot whether banks favor one over the other or not. Just that they are putting their money on a likely "winning horse".

19. Here is another part of the current bankruptcy bill vs the old
that is conveniently overlooked:

"This bill not only lifts the stay on support payments during bankruptcy, but it adds that, when a wife-beater files for bankruptcy, a domestic violence restraining order against him must remain in effect. It cannot be stayed. And the woman who needs a restraining order against him can still get one.

I have here an order from a family court in my home state of Delaware. A woman went to the court and requested a restraining order against her abuser, who had already filed for bankruptcy. Incredibly, the judge found, under the current Bankruptcy Code, that a proceeding for a domestic abuse restraining order is automatically stayed “by operation of law.” Joe Biden, March 2005

14. Really? It isn't reflected in campaign donations.
Maybe he isn't as corporate friendly as a lot people would like to believe.

http://biden.senate.gov/newsroom/details.cfm?id=234426&&

"There may be other aspects of this legislation that we can debate: the balance between creditors and debtors, between different kinds of creditors, or between different kinds of debtors. But on the question of child support and alimony, there should be no dispute.

Because this bill strengthens the collection of alimony. Period." Joe Biden, March 10, 2005

10. As happy as I am - I can't see Edwards being the one that will be knocked out.
They love him in Iowa.
Someone I know in Iowa said if the election was held today Edwards would win Iowa.

16. We can make predictions all we want, but
we don't know what events will occur in the upcoming months, or what irretrievable mistakes any candidate might make. As always there will be surprises.

20. I don't know.
I doubt it will be Obama. And Edwards is their favorite.
And Hillary is doing well there too.

I see Edwards, Hillary and Biden in the top three. Which is my top three as well...providing nothing drastic happens in the meantime. :)

17. KICK - this is great
People are not going to make up their minds for a while. Once Joe gets beyond a certain threshhold, more people will jump on because he's a lot of people's 2nd choice right now and he's going to shoot into the top 3 in the last 1-2 months. Plus more people will start watching the debates where Biden completely dominates, IMHO. The new Joe-mentum, baby!

29. For all practical purposes, Iraq is already partitioned
Biden's proposal would keep Iraq together as a loose federation, which is better than having the country disintegrate into sectarian and ethnic cantons, which is the way it is headed.

Biden's proposal would bring our troops home quickly. OTOH, candidates like Hillary and Obama have publicly said they will still have combat troops in Iraq by 2012. This is unacceptable!
