Republican rivals turn on Romney
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/10/15/wuspols115.xml

The race for the Republican presidential nomination turned nasty as rivals rounded on Mitt Romney for describing himself as the true embodiment of Republican values.

Patience with the former Massachusetts governor snapped after he argued his socially conservative values represented "the Republican wing of the Republican Party".

His remark caused other leading contenders to break the party's "11th commandment", set by Ronald Reagan, not to criticise each other.

In a speech, John McCain, the former Arizona senator, reacted by saying: "We all know when he ran for office in Massachusetts being a Republican wasn't much of a priority for him. It's very clear he's changed his positions on almost every major issue in his various campaigns." Rudy Giuliani's campaign team said Romney's comments were "one of those moments where you sit back and just say, 'huh?'?".

"...he argued his socially conservative values represented 'the Republican wing of the Republican Party'."

Remember Howard Dean? "Dean often quoted the late Minnesota Senator Paul Wellstone (who had recently died in a plane crash) as saying that he represented 'the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party'. " _link_

Romney can't even come up with an original line!
