Kucinich 'seriously thinking' about forcing vote on Cheney impeachment

Rep. Dennis Kucinich says he is so concerned about what he sees as the Bush administration's push for a war with Iran that he is considering using a parliamentary measure to force the House of Representatives to vote on impeaching Vice President Dick Cheney.

"We're preparing for another war, and they're going to destroy America," the Ohio Democrat said Thursday on the Ed Schultz show. "We have a government in place right now that has to be challenged. I'm seriously thinking about calling a privileged resolution on impeachment of the vice president and forcing a vote on the floor of the House."

A privileged resolution would force the full House to debate about whether to proceed with impeachment, but it remains unclear precisely how, when or whether Kucinich would be able to introduce such a resolution. Privileged measures "may be called up on the floor whenever another measure is not already pending" and the House agrees to consider it, according to the Congressional Research Service.

Privileged measures can include questions of House privileges or resolutions of inquiry, according to the CRS report.

if bush is impeached & convicted in the senate on january 18th, 2008, the day before inaguration, i think its worth it. even if he's NOT convicted, but merely impeached, i think its worth it.

never before, not even nixon, has impeachment been so richly deserved.

That is not the message I want to send

It means complicity -- approval -- exoneration for the regime. It's what we have now and why this congress gets the lowest approval numbers ever.

An impeachment effort -- even a failed one -- can only send the message that "WE OBJECT" in the name of the American People, to that which they have never given their proper consent.

Only Impeachment can send that message to the world, to our children, and to history.

It IS our positive agenda.

And our ONLY moral, patriotic (and legal, legislative, electoral, diplomatic...) option.

An impeachment trial allows Congress to investigate and oversee this President.
He cannot claim executive privilege and has to honor subpoenas.

I think he's realistic as far as his true chances of winning the nomination are. At least by being a candidate, he can get his message out and maybe leverage Congress into passing articles of impeachment against Cheney.

Seriously - go for it. I don't know how politically feasible impeaching Bush would be, since there's a level of plausible deniability with him as the "puppet president". Cheney, though, has already had one of his closest aids go down in Plamegate, and he's clearly involved in just about every major scandal this administration has gotten itself into. He's a *better*, easier, more meaningful target. Go for it.

I've got Democrats-Thinking-Out-Loud fatigue. I'd rather just see someone do something.

There really doesn't seem to be too many politicians speaking up for the American people anymore, I am happy he is at least speaking. I don't understand how the so called front runners can sit back and say nothing when I think most of their supporters would support them for doing so. Hell are the front runners speaking out about the patriot act? Are they speaking out about the attack on the constitution? How about health care with the insurance companies huge profits out of it? What exactly are our so called front runners speaking out on? isn't that what the American people need, a representative of the people, someone who will stand for US? I really don't understand what it is that Americans want in a politician or president anymore, I want someone to give me and my family a voice because we cant afford to buy a voice with a lobbyist like the corporations can.

Make sure you file the correct paperwork; we know you

IMPEACH CHENEY FIRST

Indict the criminals that were put in by this criminal administration-use the facts of past "investigations" for that--no one is above the law, and our Constitution cannot be altered or abolished by anyone except we, the people, even though it has been papered over by more criminals.

At least we impeachment aficionados aren't completely alone as long as we have Dennis. What a difference between him and Pelosi. One is true to his ideals and the other is a chameleon with mega-carot diamond earrings.
