Women Changing America
At age 75, when asked by reporters to reflect on her life, Eleanor Roosevelt said, "I could not, at any age, be content to take my place by the fireside and simply look on." Throughout history, it has been those women who were willing to leave the hearth and stir the coals of change who pushed America to recognize the best of its ideals.

This week, we're recognizing all of those women who are changing America today - the women who are confronting challenges with strength, confidence, and grace. Throughout her career, Hillary has been a leader on issues from childcare to education and health care to retirement security, working to make America a better place.

Throughout the week, we invite you to join the conversation on these issues - check our website for daily updates, and find out how you can become involved. Just as Hillary is working to change America, millions of women in communities across the country are, too. My mother served on the local school board in Mendon, Vermont to make sure our elementary school had a strong curriculum and good pay for teachers, and my friend Anne is active in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program in Atlanta, Georgia where she mentors a young girl needing extra support. Both of them - and so many of you - are changing America for the better each and every day. Please share your story about how you are working for change at: http://www.hillaryclinton.com//coalitions/womenforhillary/action/wca/

1. we owe our foremothers a great deal-from abigail adams to susan b anthony and
elizabeth cady stanton and all the suffragists, to margaret sanger, eleanor, rosa parks, and untold millions who fought so hard in so many ways.

3. I couldn't agree more with you.
I would also like to acknowledge what the women did during WWII.

4. Yes, women are changing America
and changing politics!

That doesn't mean we women have to vote for a person just because that person happens to be a woman :bounce:.

We can support the candidate with think will best serve American :patriot:.

Congratulations to Senator Clinton and the ever-growing group of women supporting her (who knows I may end up caucusing for her in January).

:hi:

5. AMEN!
I have a dream...that someday a candidate will be judged on the quality of their character, NOT by the variety of their genitalia!
Ok..that was pretty lame.

But then some are just plain blind.

16. okay--just wondered where that came from.
wayyyyyy back in our political life, the joke was that the ultimate feminist nightmare would be that we would indeed have a female president and veep--only they would be phyllis schlafly and anita bryant!!

14. "Obama isnt black enough"
is what "some people" say. But don't get all creeped out by it.

Just let people attack a dem with lies. Sit back and "chill". It worked wonders for Kerry when he had to deal with the SBVT

15. What are you talking about??
Edited on Mon Oct-15-07 02:17 PM by jefferson_dem
Trace back through this sub-thread...very slowly if you have to.

I was replying to someone who jumped all over a fellow DUer for simply saying that we shouldn't vote for Hillary just because she's a woman.

Got it now?

20. uh, no, YOU need to read the subthreads more carefully--I just asked where in the OP
the poster had seen anything about voting for a person because of gender. I did NOT "jump all over her"

my, we are sensitive today, aren't we?

13. As a feminist let me say we shouldn't ignore the fact that Condi Rice left the Hearth . . .
to bring major destruction to the world -- lies and violence -- including to our own nation.
