WHat is Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid Thinking???
W. Blitzer just gave a blow by blow account of SCHIP BILL Fight
going on in Senate. They have 48 hrs to get enough votes to
overturn Presidential Veto.

The Dems brought in Paul Simon and some chilren to press the
Issue. The GOP are dug in saying they will only support a
less expensive bill.

Blitizer: What happens if they cannot get the votes to overturn veto:

The Piece ends up with Dana Bashe saying she asked Harry Reid
this question. Harry Reid told her that "we will tweak the
bill to help the President save face." WHAT.

You do not tell the GOP you will fold before the fight really
gets going????? He is saying Just hold out and we will adjust
to your whims, GOP.

10. Imagine how much he'd roll over with a fellow mormon in the WH.
He can really be pathetic.

17. How ridiculous.
Let's pretend Giuliani was Jewish, and Lieberman were the Senate ML. Imagine how much he'd roll over with a fellow Jew in the White House.

That sound appropriate? Let's stick to facts, and not religion-baiting.

18. That's a lot of pretending.
And if that pretending were true, I'd ask that fair question.
Religion can be a strong force in one's life, and if the decisions they make based on their beliefs affect the course of our nation, it is valid to question them.

22. I don't believe it's valid to state
that a politician will sell out his nation because of his religion. Honestly, that's the exact same rationale (word-for-word, really) that had people questioning if JFK would sell America out to the Pope.

23. And I believe it is a major reason the SCOTUS is so messed up.
5 Catholic men with the most power in the land, and they answer, ultimately, to their religious beliefs and manipulate the Constitution to those beliefs. I don't want to see any particular religion consolidate power in our government.

24. I wouldn't consider the Protestants Fundamentalist.
All of the Protestants in office come from varied branches of Christianity. Mormonism is a singular, fundamental religion. Every Mormon follows the same leader. That is not the case with Methodists, Southern Baptists, Unitarians etc.

20. Why should we be the least bit
interested in helping Bush "save face"? Christ,Reid sounds like he's negotiating for hostages. This is an unwinnable position for the GOP. I don't want SCHIP tweaked. Take it to the ground and let the chips fall where they may.

25. THE OP IS BASED ON A LIE
Reid didn't say he would "tweak the bill" to save face for *

Reid said he would "tweak the language" (so long as it doesn't affect the bill) to save face for *

If that's what it takes to provide health care to MILLIONS of children, then I'm ALL FOR IT

27. I'm starting to get a permanent indentation & bruising on my forehead from everytime I slam my head
against the wall or table after hearing the latest stupid move by Reid, Pelosi and the Dem leadership...

I'm sorry, but the Dems show up to a Street Fight wanting to play chess and they are debating the rules while the Republicans show up with knifes and ready for blood....

Please tell me that Harry Reid didn't say this....my indentation just got deeper and more bruised....I just can't stand it much longer....

29. Tweaking Language means changing the bill.
Let us be honest, the Pres and GOP are dug in. Tweaking a few
words will not move them.

The GOP cannot be shamed. In their weird thinking, they believe
they are right. GOP does not pretend to believe in these programs.
If they are to help anyone in society, it is only only only the
very poorest. True Republicanism believes the government has
no role in this type program. Poor should be taken care of by
the churches and charity not government.

No one is owed anything is GOP Creed. Personal responsiblity
is their mantra. You get yours, I got mine.

I guess I believe we need to be just as toughminded in our belief
we are in this together and we are our brother's keeper.
