MA Governor Deval Patrick to endorse Barack Obama (& rally)
Edited on Wed Oct-17-07 04:09 PM by The Ghost
BREAKING NEWS: Governor Deval Patrick will endorse Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, according to senior administration officials. Patrick called Obama today to confirm his plans to support his presidential candidacy. The two talked briefly and aides began working out details for a large public rally in Boston next week, the officials said. --Developing

UPDATE :

http://www.boston.com/news/globe/city_region/breaking_news/2007/10/patrick_will_en.html

"Governor Deval Patrick is throwing his support to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, an endorsement that will give the Illinois senator a much needed boost in New Hampshire and help blunt Hillary Clinton's courting of African-American leaders.

Senior administration officials confirmed that Patrick called Obama today to confirm his plans to endorse his presidential candidacy. The two talked briefly and aides began working out details for a large public rally in Boston next week.

The Patrick political organization today sent out emails to its list of 40,000 workers and supporters, telling them of his decision to back Obama.

Patrick, the nation's only black governor who is considered a rising star in a new generation of African-American leaders, also called Clinton today to inform her of his decision. He has strong ties to her and former President Bill Clinton, in whose administration he held a top justice department post. Both Clintons lobbied him for his endorsement."

6. It helps that Patrick and Obama share the same media guy:

David Axelrod.

All in all, it's a good endorsement. My congressman, Steve Rothman, endorsed Obama during the summer.

8. No surprise there...

...Deval's biggest supporters were largely Obamaniacs. They are also totally on the same wavelength message-wise.

Some very smart political moves by Obama lately in shoring up support among the netroots, BTW. Still not a convert, but I'll be voting strategically after reading the early exit polls, so he may just end up getting my vote in the end.
