Poll question: Poll about Al Gore
Edited on Sat Oct-20-07 02:09 PM by smalll
I honestly want to know: where do you find yourself on the question of the chance of a Gore candidacy?

Back at the start of the year when Al Gore was saying he "had no plans to run" I thought odds were, he wouldn't, but the door was still open. When he says that now, last on the 17th (Wednesday), two weeks and two days before the filing deadline for the New Hampshire primary, I feel pretty sure he won't. But where are you? What do you predict?

FACT: THE FILING DEADLINE FOR THE NEW HAMPSHIRE PRIMARY IS NOVEMBER 2ND (thirteen days away.)

1. I don't think there's any chance he'll run.
I sure was hoping though.

**sigh**

2. Explanations of why people think as they do on this question are solicited and welcomed,

especially from people voting for the third option.

5. That's fair, I can understand the exicted expectancy -
and I hope it's the "last days" suspense building that is giving us a certain Gore-mania here on the DU over the past week or so, since the Nobel really, that continues to build up rather than die down.

I don't think he'll run, but I'm willing to grant that he might still get in at the last moment, and file in New Hampshire on the 2nd. Honestly, I just really worry about the "green-line" voters in this poll. This will be a suspenseful, exciting two weeks to be sure, but once they're done and over with (one way or the other) I just really hope we won't be falling into a brand-new epidemic of mass delusion here on the boards.

4. I believe the nod is Al Gore's if he wants it.
I would whole-heartedly support his candidacy, but as time passes my hope for that is diminishing. :(

7. Gore would be a fool to run
Edited on Sat Oct-20-07 01:48 PM by sallyseven
and he is not a fool. Who wants to put up with the likes of rush lumpblimp, hannity, o'liley and their daly harangue. He is very well respected in the US and should not allow anyone to denigrate him. The right wing is so decrepit that they think it their duty do try to disgrace every one. Do you really want to have Gore to put up with this slime? I don't. The next president will have a big mess on their hands.

8. From the beginning, I've wanted to help provide an opportunity
Edited on Sat Oct-20-07 01:58 PM by NastyDiaper
to enter 'late' and he has it. I consider the effort a success. Consider the polls, the media, his exposure. Gore could enter with a great chance at the primary and excellent in the general, if he wants to.

Primary ballot efforts can get all the signatures they need. Except possibly that one signature they really need.

The way I see it, the marathon Draft Gore effort is now in a sprint, and the finish is 11/2.

9. Thanks for the response.
Good luck: even though I'm a Hillarite, I wish you well. I've actually always thought that Gore could have made an excellent nominee for our side, it would have been fun to see him in the debates, etc, and maybe if he was, Hillary wouldn't command them so convincingly. Maybe. But at least I think we'll never know.

And I applaud your sanity too - you put it well, it's a "sprint" now. "And the finish is 11/2."

10. I Think Amerika Is Fucked
I'm probably going to post something next week, but I was thinking today, that all those who say he won't, and don't want him to run....you know who you are....think so because they believe he's got a bigger goal in mind than the Presidency.

I truly believe now that these people are right.

But while that is true, the reality is this. Al Gore will continue to work towards making the "World" better prepared for the Global Warming crisis.

The key thing here is that it will be good for the WORLD. But meanwhile, Amerika, or what we once believed it to be, is going to vanish.

This country's future is Far, Far, Far Worse Off, even while the planet will endure, and perhaps benefit.

Good for corporations, bad for the common person.

Good for war profiters, bad for soldiers.

Good for wealthy, bad for the economically disadvanteged.

Good for Facism, bad for "democracy."

I see myself drifting further from this country, and I think my abstaining from voting for President, for the 1st time since I turned 18, will be a major turning point for me.

If we end up with a repub, then this country deserves whatever it gets, and whatever it becomes. I just don't really care much anymore, and Al Gore's not running, will only solidify it. I can't support something or someone I don't believe in. Democrat or not.
