What makes you think
that you should have a say in how the Congress organizes itself and who will be in the leadership?

Really, I'm curious. And how would that work anyway?

And one more thing: Do you really think being able to recall a Senator or House member is such a good idea?

1. Interesting question....I don't know maybe that the individuals

that "We the People" send to Congress are supposed to do the bidding for their constituents. And when the lie, are charged with crimes they should be recalled. I don't know Lieberwhore comes to mind....he flat out lied to his constituents who supported him for all of those years...

Are you saying that once they are in Washington they have no obligation to their constituents? Then what's the point of having elections?

3. Congress critters are elected every two years
and though I forget exactly how it works, if charged with a crime, they're usually out. Craig is an exception. So the brevity of the House term seems to solve the problem of someone who the electorate feels isn't representing them. Senators, of course, have 6 year terms, but the trouble with recalls for them is that you'd constantly have people from across the political spectrum trying to take out Senators who they didn't like for reasons ill, as well as reasonable.

6. While I'm not crazy about recalls...
they depend on a certain amount of signatures.
If enough people sign on the line then so be it.
There are recall petitions in California ALL THE TIME.
most of them go nowhere, thats the point.

On the face of it, I have no real problem with the recall concept.
The only problem is when you end up with an Arnold (or Nancy in this case) in office.

if we could kick him out all for it.

2. One problem with the recall argument is that many of the people wanting the recall...
aren't in the state or district involved. Most of them, probably.

5. Remember Jeffords?
Edited on Sun Oct-21-07 08:43 PM by monktonman
Skip Valley freaked out and demanded his money back.
His vote for Saint Jim brought expectations with it.
If he knew Jim was gonna flip he wouldn't have wasted his vote. (waste according to him)

Everyone knows the Dems "won" in 06 because voters wanted the war to be over. Period.
Is anything Nancy and Harry are doing make you think they are trying to end the war?
Thats the real question.

As for re-calls. Look no further than Arnold. What did that get us?
That "...if you believe this, than you are a republican." speech.
That shit was pretty powerful and made alot of fence sitters flip.
Point: we're stuck with these jerks until the next round.

As for having a say in the leadership: everyone in Frisco who voted for Speaker Pelosi
knew she was going to be the next Speaker. If they knew then what they know now, would
they have voted for her? Who knows.
Then again.....votes come with expectations.

7. I don't hear as much recall talk...
as I do questioning of their motives. Which is totally within rights and reason for us to do.

11. There is no provision to recall any federal elected Congress member, Only
some states allow state officials to be recalled.

12. and those provisions
are unconstitutional.

The US constitution is the only authority on who serves in the Congress and under what circumstances they serve.
