Obama betrays the gays-
October 21, 2007

"epilogue"

http://gaysocialites.com/2007/10/obama_betrays_the_gays_1.html

"That's what makes Obama's ala Bush pander to anti-gay mania even more shameless and reprehensible. From the moment that he tossed his hat in the presidential ring, Obama has done everything he could to sell himself to voters, as the Man on the White Horse, a fresh new face on the scene, with new ideas, and the candidate that's not afraid to boldly challenge Bush and the GOP on everything from the Iraq war to health care.

He's also sold himself as a healer and consensus builder. Legions have bought his pitch, and have shelled out millions to bankroll his campaign. But healing and consensus building does not mean sucking up to someone that publicly boasts that he's in "a war" against gays, and that the aim of his war is to "cure" them. That's what McClurkin has said. Polls show that more Americans than ever say that they support civil rights for gays, and a torrent of gay themed TV shows present non-stereotypical depictions of gays. But this increased tolerance has not dissipated the hostility that far too many blacks, especially hard core Bible thumping blacks, feel toward gays.

Obama has spent months telling everyone that he's everything that Bush isn't. He can proof it by saying a resounding no to McClurkin and to gay bashing. He can cancel and repudiate the South Carolina "gospel" tour, and do it now."

1. Did you really need to launch yet another thread on this same subject?
Couldn't you have simply tagged it to the one you started earlier?

2. Sorta reminds me of they way you post the same crap about Hillary over and over.
But as to Obama, he has an absolute right to associate with whom so ever he wants to.

We democrats yell and scream at the republican candidates for their stance on subjects like abortion and gay marriage. Obama has not come out against gays. He is just meeting with these people to ask for their vote. He is not promising them anything. If he promises to come out against gays then that would be another story. But given his real religious background I don't think he would pan gays. But then that's my opinion. I don't post bashes and lies like the people who bash Hillary.

8. Bullshit.
It's not about the content, per se. My point was that this same poster launched another thread on this exact same subject earlier today. Chill.

Can't he just "proof it" by kicking McClurkin off the tour?
Or at least by repudiating McClurkin's political views. Why would he cancel the whole tour? That wouldn't address the problem (McClurkin).

11. Are you thinking this was a mistake?
I somehow doubt it. The article makes the connection why Obama chose this bigot for the tour.

9. No, this isn't about the same thing at all
This article verifies from an outside source everything that was speculated on earlier today.
Everything written in this article rings true in spite of the lame excuses put out by lamer DU'ers.

10. "Outside source". This is just a random blogger (and not even a good one)
commenting on the same story you already wrote a post on.
If you see something special in it, I don't see a big deal though. People can just ignore it.

13. Get over it because he will be President. He did not betray Dems
Edited on Sun Oct-21-07 10:17 PM by Ethelk2044
I am sick of people trying to smear such as yourself to try to get your candidate a rise. Obama has not done anything against the GBLT community. I guess Clinton did the same thing recently when he appeared on the same stage with Donnie. Hell he is the ex president and he should known better than to appear on stage with Donnie. He should have push for Donnie to be uninvited. No he did not.

14. Ethelk2044, what year is it?
I ask because you seem to think that 1992 is "recent." Even if you consider 1992 to be "recent", and ignore the fact that Donnie didn't begin crusading against gay rights until more than 10 years after that convention, you seem to think that the presidential nominee schedules the convention events. Also, very ironic to hear you of all people crying about using smears against other candidates.

Your post says Bill. Was that a mistype? Campaigning on behalf of a candidate and being at the same party as a candidate's spouse are two different things, Ethel.

23. Apparently, he didn't cancel it.
And any support I may have had for Obama in the primaries has evaporated. Apparently, the Senator doesn't give a damn about homophobia and what it means to gay and lesbian Americans.

24. It's Obama's Southern Strategy
He knows exactly what he is doing. Over at Kos the chief Obama diarist acknowledged that there were "problems with homosexuals and AIDS" in the south.

25. Just out of curiosity...
Realistically speaking, how well would Obama do in the Red States? Like Alabama, Mississippi, etc? Barack Obama passes for what supposedly is liberal in this country. He has a pretty liberal voting record. How well, with that voting record, would he do in a state like Texas? Seriously? Wasting ones time in places like that while writing off millions of Americans who happen to be gay. I just don't get it. But then again, I'm not some political strategist, so what the fuck do I know? I have these weird ideas about doing what's right with core Democratic voters, so I guess I'm hopelessly naive.

28. I think Obama has a reasonable shot in the Red States in the Primary
As far as his liberal record goes, he kept himself out of votes on abortion in Chicago. It's dog whistling - signals to be heard only by the intended audience. You may not be a bigot, but you want their votes.

This tour is targeting SC. It would be hard to target a wider audience by TV ads. He would need to spread the word through the churches and to do that he needs strong lieutenants. Grassroots. Obama is one of us.

Ultimately it is a losing strategy. Every Republican plays very hard for the evangelical vote. Alabama and Mississippi will stay red in the GE come hell or high water. A few pictures of Rudy in his dress wouldn't hurt though ;)

Over the top pandering in the south, yes. Gospel and anti-gay, how stupid does he think we are?

Also, he hits college campuses like Bush hits the troops for back drops and attendance.

....what's his message again?
