are we becoming like them?
Edited on Tue Oct-23-07 06:03 AM by cleveramerican
The conventional wisdom say the democrats are favored to win the Whitehouse.
We haven't been the favorites in this for some time.
I am beginning to witness arrogant smugness creeping in with alarming regularity.
Are we so different from the republicans?

"Your just a freeper" is different than "your just a liberal" how?

Some ways we are just like the republicans;

Nobody knows what the future holds.
we all want to be safe
we all want to be sensible
we all want a leader who will make good sensible choices.
we all want to be heard.
nobody wants to be shouted down.
We all wants to be extended some courtesy from our fellow Americans.

The goals we have are much the same
Its the path to get there we clash over.
Give it some thought.

There are no sure things.

what you think about, what you carry around inside your head; is who you are.
There is always room for improvement.
Winston Churchill said" victory and defeat; those two imposter's should be greeted the same"

I tell my under 7 girls little league team to be gracious in victory
not to rub it in
congratulate opponents for a good game
how can I expect less of responsible adults?

1. Watch out! You'll be tombstoned.
It is practically a crime for anyone to admit here that the "morans," the "stoopids," the people who voted for Bush, might have something in common with anybody on DU. That they, in fact, might be human beings whose needs have been ignored for decades, by both Democrats and the Republicans they elected.

For God's sake, you keep talking like that and someone might want to bring all these people together and we might realize they're not as stupid as we thought, and we're not as smart as we like to play up here. That maybe we might have common needs and desires, and that a wise leader might bring us together in a common direction and make America better.

You keep talking like that and you'll prevent a good Democratic candidate from losing again, and that'd spoil the Democratic record.

2. I've been here a long time.
And I'm not seeing a lot of what you're describing. Certainly no more than has ever been here.

"Are we becoming like them?" I guess it depends on what you mean. "They" have been better fighters than us, I believe, but "they" have also been real a**holes.

- Have we become better fighters? Better at standing up for what we believe in? In many ways, yes. We still have far to go.

- Have we become a**holes? No more than usual.

3. Peace, I think you are right.
Peace to our enemies, and our friends. Peace to our friends on the other side and our enemies at home. Thank you for your thoughts.
