Need some help to answer folks regarding LA electing Bobby Jindal.....
The "Limpbaugh pack" in my office, as I call them, are all over me about why I am not happy that LA elected its first minority Indian-American as its first non-white governor. I don't want to just bash the GOP and Jindal's policies. I suspect Jindal came from money and has no comprehension of the plight of the less fortunate but I would like to offer some better concrete replies.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

2. Without a doubt....
Let's face it, that was HUGE in him being elected. We lost a big chunk of reliable votes.

3. Someone here said that his mother was a nuclear physicist. Guess he did not grow up in a slum....

Also indicates that innate intelligence does not necessarily bestow compassion. He was a Rhodes Scholar....for whatever that may be worth.

Jindal is anti-choice and is anti-evolution. He wants so-called "intelligent design" taught in schools. He wants to take away the rights of women to get an abortion if they get raped. He's against stem cell research.

With Louisiana being last in the country on many issues, having a knuckle-dragger like Jindal makes it even worse for the state's future. He's a stooge of the so-called Religious Right. Any future industries that might want to help out Louisiana (like biotech, high tech and other promising industries) would ran like hell away from that backward thinking.

Louisiana is in the skids and will just get worse with people like Jindal in charge. Having lived in New Orleans for a little while, it is a dark day when people like Jindal get elected. I thought about moving back part-time to help out with the post-Katrina efforts, but this makes it a lot harder to want to do.

Sure, Limbaugh types are "pro-life" and want to stop abortion...until it's their daughter that gets raped by a black man or "illegal alien". Suddenly, they would be "pro-choice".

6. Well, he's bona fide nuts, that should help.
He believes in creationism, no exceptions for abortion, not even to save the life of the mother,
and, oh, he claims to have personally seen the demonic possession of a friend.

So, Jindal is a freak, that does it for me.

7. Thanks for the information....
I would rather discuss it with one of the office workers at a time as opposed to all of them. That "pack mentality" thing is borderline scary.

9. Previous Governors election...
In the previous governors election between Jindal and Blanco, four years ago, Jindal was known as running a "clean campaign". At the very end of the campaign, he failed to rebut a low blow from the Blanco camp, and also did not run any mud-slinging attack ads against Blanco. It was a close election, but Jindal lost, and the political pundits pointed to his refusal to run attack ads at the end of the campaign as the reason for his loss. Then we had the hurricane, and the levees failed, flooding eighty percent of New Orleans. It looked to me as if the Bush administration did not really want to help out a democratic governor (Blanco). With the way that everything was botched, including cleanup and reconstruction efforts, Blanco naturally got much of the blame. Many folks think that if we'd have had a Republican governor, we would've received more help, so the previous governors election and Jindal's loss to Blanco was sorta on people's mind prior to this election. He had better name recognition than the other candidates going into the campaign, and I think many thought of this election as a chance for a "do-over". Also, the demographics has changed because of all the folks that were sent out of the city & state, with the population of New Orleans about two-thirds what it was before the storm...more democrats than republicans were given one-way tickets out of Louisiana.

That's my assessment of Jindals win.
