2. Actually, it's considered good sportsman ship to root for the team from your league. nt

4. In fairness, I think I read elsewhere that that was Rudy's explanation. nt

26. I heard that as well but
in reality - New Yorkers would never do that. The Sox are the enemies as are the Celtics, Cowboys and even the Islanders (that one gets very ugly). He's doing this to garner votes in New Hampshire and I'm sure a blue state like that is much too smart to fall for it.

6. Honestly. How many Yankee fans do you know that root for the Red Sox because they are in the AL?
If as many as 10% of Yankee fans do this, I'd be surprise. I'm not a pollster and no polls have been made about this, but the Yankee fans that I know do not give a damn about this AL vs. NL thing.

7. No self-respecting Yankee fan would root for the Red Sox....EVER
Not even if aliens invaded and played the Sox in a 7 game battle for Earth. Yankee fans would hold signs up saying "CHOKE SOX BLOW...WE WELCOME OUR NEW ALIEN OVERLORDS"

Signed,

An Ex-Yankee Fan

11. I agree...
as I indicated, I'm an EX-Yankee fan. Can't stand 'em....but I remember how deep the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry runs and why this is a staggeringly dumb thing for Rudy to say. What's the upside? He gets to pander to a Boston audience, but he looks like a phony idiot to the rest of the country. And Yankee fans? They'll boo him worse than if Bin Laden himself sat in the 1st base box seats.

13. Why are you an ex fan, if you don't mind me asking
And I agree, this was a super dumb move on Giuliani's part (but this is Rudy we're talking about). Pandering asshole.

14. To quote George Carlin, "I reached the age of Reason"
Actually, I moved away from upstate New York (where we had to root for the Yankees by default, not having a MLB team of our own) to go to college in Baltimore. I was an Orioles fan for a while until I moved out West to go to business school. I landed in San Francisco and fell in love with the National League style of play. I was (and still am) a die-hard Giants fan. Next year will be interesting as it will be A.B. (After Bonds), but hope springs eternal!

More than anything though, Steinbrenner made me an ex-Yankee fan. He's a criminal (convicted in the early 70's for illegal contributions to Nixon's campaign), I'm convinced he drove Billy Martin (whom I adored) to drink himself to death, he employed lowlifes and thugs to spy on and harass Dave Winfield, and I think he's the most megalomaniacal character ever to own a sports team. When he dropped his bombshell before Game 3 of this year's ALDS (where he said he wouldn't renew the contract of a man who gave him 12 straight playoff appearances, ten division titles, six pennants and 4 World Championships if they didn't win Game 3), I wasn't surprised in the slightest. Steinbrenner is a disgrace and as long as he's running the show in NY, I will have no respect for that franchise

15. Very true
I doubt you'll even see him in NYC for the foreseeable future. And next time he shows up at Yankee Stadium - that'll be a sight to see. American league or no - Yankee fans do not root for the Sox - EVER.

22. Will you marry me?
I once said that I'd root for Saddam Hussein and the Republican Guard if they played the Cowboys.

I think I've finally found that Special Someone that understands me....

20. You gotta be kidding
This is the Yankees and the Red Sox we're talking about. As a Yankees fan, the day I root for the Red Sox is the day I become a brainwashed Baptist Bush-loving evangelical. In other words, NEVER.

3. Look at the positive....Rudy's pissing off Colorado
which could be a swing state and reducing his support in NY.

Hey Rudy, maybe you could insult the Cubs, Astros, Cardinals when you have a free second.

16. Rudy never stood a chance in NY
he has done nothing except shit on the very people who voted him into Gracie mansion. All this "now I'm a conservative" crap has made him persona non grata in this city. I predict an enormous Dem victory in NY city - no matter who the candidate is for us.

19. I don't think so
When he was mayor - upstate was always complaining about how NYC used all the federal funds and had very nasty things to say about the mayor - they hated Giuliani - unless you're contending they hate Hillary and will vote for any puke - that may be but she won pretty handily in the last senate race - even in upstate.

when the Yankees lost to the freakin Indians I couldn't think straight for 10 or 20 minutes. I'm just glad I didn't break my hand and punch the wall.

25. LOL - my dad didn't let the fact I wasn't a son
deter him from making me a rabid sports fan. I'd probably live a lot longer if I wasn't involved in sports and my hair certainly wouldn't be this gray. The thought that Giuliani is rooting for the Sox (for purely political reasons) will stain him permanently. I can't wait for his next trip to the stadium.

29. Following baseball is often passed down through generations by women...
remember, the games used to be played during the day on the radio when women at home could listen.

Grace Coolidge, Bess Truman and my grandmother...
