Rice taps Clinton, Carter for Middle East advice (Reuters)

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Anxious not to repeat mistakes of past Middle East peace-making, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has turned to former presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter for tips ahead of her own conference this year...

My view: This is a bullshit article, designed to give the false impression that this murderous monster is actually a human being.

1. OH MY GOD! That's something I NEVER thought I'd see!
With as much as the Bushies hate the Clintons and Mr. Carter, did Condi go out on her own on this one? I just can't imagine Shrub or Cheney saying OK to that!

3. Sorta of right....
Bill Clinton has gotten quite cozy with Pappy but I don't think anyone in the administration likes Carter esp. Uncle Dick.

4. I also don't think there's any love lost between Bill and Shrub!
There seems to be at least some congeniality between ex-presidents, and I think that's part of what you're seeing with Poppy. I really doubt we'll ever see anything like that between Shrub and ANYBODY!!!!

5. Rice is setting up Clinton and Carter to take the blame when Bush screws up the ME peace process.
Bush/Cheney screwed up Afghanistan and then screwed up Iraq. Now, almost seven years later, with the Middle East in worse shape than it was in 2001, thanks to Bush/Cheney, they are going to turn their attention to the Israel/Palestine issue. Do Bush/Cheney think the Israelis or the Palestinians would trust the U.S. with its current track record?

This is why they want to bring Clinton and Carter in to the process. Bush/Cheney's and Rice's credibility is nil, zilch, nada. Then, if U.S. efforts turn sour, it will be all Clinton's and Carter's fault.

8. Yeah, and if they get it right...
it will be all Bush's credit. Still, I'm glad to see these two guys working on the problem.

9.  she checked out volumes of historical background from the State Department's library on Israeli-Pal

....The top U.S. diplomat, who has been to Israel and the Palestinian Territories seven times this year and returns next week, is preparing the ground for a Palestinian statehood conference expected to be held in late November or early December, in Annapolis, Maryland.

Clinton hosted many Middle East peace summits at Camp David, the presidential retreat in Maryland, even in his final month in office in January 2001, but never managed to get an Israeli-Palestinian deal.

Carter held secret negotiations at Camp David that led to a 1978 deal between Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin.

Rice also has been scouring historical records for pointers. During her summer break in August, she checked out volumes of historical background from the State Department's library on Israeli-Palestinian peacemaking, a department official said.

10. WHAT ?! the bush boy is so desperate to have something positive in his presidential legacy that he
Edited on Sat Oct-27-07 06:28 AM by flordehinojos
is willing to let his nanny get advise from Clinton and Carter so that she can 1) either pooh-pooh their advise, 2) let it become a black mark on clinton's and carter's presidencies if their advise to the bush administration happens not to work out, or if she fumbles the ball, does what she wants to do, that is, does what the petite L'Enfant wants her to do which is make war not peace, and shove the blame on to them?

were it not because this world is in desperate need of something or someone to save it from a bush induced war, i'd say to clinton/carter, "do to her what they do to Ahmadinejad. refuse to talk to rice if she does not accept your set conditions for this talk with her -- and then demand that both of you go on the trip with her, and that both of you, not her, meet and talk with those leaders of the Middle East that she is supposed to be meeting and talking with."

give the da**n bush administration some of their own hell! payback time!
